What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School and High School Basketball Coach position at High School?
Headwaters School, a Pre-K through grade 12 independent day school serving over 500 students across its three campuses in Austin, TX, is seeking two part-time Middle and High Basketball Coaches for the winter 2026-2027 season. Our ideal candidate will be committed to the growth and well-being of our students. This position will start in early November.

Headwaters coaches aim to foster a love for sport in a fun and productive environment. Practice time is used to develop the whole student-athlete on and off the field through traditional sport-specific drills, strength and conditioning, team building activities, structured study halls, and service projects.
Coaching staff report directly to our school Athletics Coordinator. This is a temporary, part-time stipend position. Our ideal candidate will be available to start early November, 2026.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Plan and run practices up to two-three times a week for an hour and a half (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday)
- Coaching games once per week
- Communicate with student-athletes, coaches, and athletic and school administrators
- Create an environment of respect, teamwork, sportsmanship, and hard work
- Ensure proper safety measures when conducting team activities
- Collaborate with the Athletics Coordinator to meet team needs
- Attend appropriate athletic department staff meetings
- Be responsible for the actions and conduct of the team whenever they are under your supervision
- Attend to, care for and follow-up with student-athletes who are injured or ill, including filling out injury report forms.
Job Qualifications
- A passion for teaching and coaching young people
- Knowledge of the fundamentals and techniques of competitive basketball
- Experience coaching at the middle school, high school, college and/or club level; expert at providing differentiated instruction to all levels
- Friendly disposition, timely and organized
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- CPR/First Aid certificates preferred
