Job Coach, Part Time (11a-2:30p)

Part-time position avialable, 11a-2:30p, 10 month position, 17.5 hours/week, Monday through Friday, $31.92 per hour

Position Title:  Job Coach

Qualifications:        

1. High School Diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
2. Experience working with secondary students with special needs preferred
3. Ability to provide own transportation is required to move amongst job sites.
4. Ability to complete CPI/Safety Cares training.
5. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate effectively with students with learning, physical and emotional disabilities.
6. Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment.
7. Ability to understand and follow directions and to implement instructional strategies under the supervision of a teacher.
8. Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality.
9. Any additional or alternative qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board of School Directors.

Reports To and Evaluated By: The Job Coach reports to and is evaluated by the Building Principal.

Principal Functions: The Job Coach works with school-age transition students at community-based work sites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities*: 

1. Assists in information gathering, employment exploration, and employment support for people with all types and severity of disabilities
2. Provides on-the-job training and follow along services
3. Gathers information about job seekers’ interests, skills, experiences, & needs
4. Assists people in exploring job options by accompanying & supporting them at assessments in businesses as needed
5. Engages in job development activities to assist people obtain employment
6. Provides individualized on-site and off-site supports to people working which may include vocational counseling, on-the job training, and follow along supports
7. Provides employment related skill development, transportation training, money management, medical support/medication monitoring, hygiene support, and interpersonal skill training
8. Provides on-the-job training at a variety of business settings, performing any number of jobs
9. Jobs may include sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time, lifting and carrying of heavy materials in all types of environments
10. Assists in the development of naturally occurring supports at job site
11. Explores, creates, researches and/or implements job accommodations and adaptations as needed
12. Interacts & communicates with family members, significant others, employers, & other community agencies effectively
13. Monitors authorized hours for those being served
14. Works confidentially and cooperatively with other staff members, including teachers, assistant, specialists and therapists.
15. Performs other related duties as directed by the teacher(s) or building principal.

Physical Necessities and Work Environment:

Position requires sitting, standing, walking or moving throughout the building, often for extended periods of the workday.  Must be able to hear (40 decibel loss maximum), verbally communicate, and have vision requirements of near acuity of 20 inches or less and far acuity of 20 feet or more with depth perception, accommodation and field vision. Required to move (push, pull, lift, carry, slide) office supplies weighing no more than 45 pounds. Also required to occasionally to lift student or assist with physical needs. Performs a variety of duties, able to make judgments and work under high level of stress. Climb stairs in and or around the building.  May occasionally bend and/or reach to secure records/files from desk, shelves and filing cabinets. Requires use of either hand for simple grasping, fine manipulation, and push/pull functions.  Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
