What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Special Education Teacher position at High School?
Rochester Academy Charter School is currently seeking qualified, self-directed, and committed candidates for Special Education Teachering positions at the High School level for the 2026-2027 school year.
Continuum of Services includes: Integrated Co-Teaching, Consultant Teaching, Resource Room
We are looking for team players who are passionate about urban education and ready to collaborate on curriculum planning and responsive lesson planning practices. Assignments are generally done by content area, so that teachers can specialize in one or two subjects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as case manager, and write IEPs, Progress reports and collect relevant documentation for the Committee on Special Eduation (CSE Process).
- Regularly communicate with teachers and families to help students be successful.

Deliver high-quality, data-informed, specialized instruction to students on your caseload.

Work with the classroom teacher to adapt or create curriculum creatively to meet the diverse needs of students.

Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment using restorative practices.

Work collaboratively with grade-level teams and the student support team to monitor student progress.

Participate in school-wide initiatives, professional development, and mentoring programs.

Maintain regular communication with families regarding student achievement and behavior.
RACS Teachers Can Expect:

Small Caseloads: Generally less than 10 students

Curriculum Support: Curriculum provided for ELA and Math with room for creative adaptation. School provides tech tools to ease differentation.

Balanced Schedule: Typical school hours are 7:15 AM – 3:15 PM.

Supportive Culture: Access to a dedicated Student Care Staff for classroom managment support. Formal mentoring program for new teachers. Supportive administrative team and instructional coaching available.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Education or relevant content area (Master’s preferred).

Certification: New York State Teacher Certification is highly preferred. (Candidates with out-of-state certification or in the process of certification will be considered). Starting salary for NYS certified teachers is $55,000.

Experience: Experience in an urban school setting is preferred but not required.
