High School Construction Trades Teacher (Levels I & II)
Uwharrie Charter Academy High School is seeking a dynamic, safety-focused, and student-centered High School Construction Trades Teacher to lead Level I and Level II Construction Trades courses. The ideal candidate will provide engaging, hands-on instruction that builds foundational carpentry, plumbing, and electrical skills while preparing students for future careers in construction, skilled trades, and workforce readiness.
This position requires an educator who prioritizes job-site safety, strong classroom management, real-world application of skills, and meaningful student engagement in a fast-paced learning environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality instruction for Construction Trades Level I and Level II courses aligned to North Carolina standards and industry expectations.
- Teach, model, and consistently monitor safety practices with safety established as the highest classroom priority.
- Develop and implement high-interest, hands-on lessons that connect construction concepts to real-world applications.
- Teach foundational construction and carpentry skills, including:
- Tool identification and safe operation
- Measuring and layout techniques
- Framing basics
- Material selection and handling
- Construction mathematics
- Project planning and execution
- Create project-based learning opportunities that emphasize teamwork, collaboration, and problem-solving.
- Maintain a structured, organized, and productive classroom and lab environment.
- Demonstrate excellent classroom management and establish clear expectations for student conduct and performance.
- Differentiate instruction to support a range of learners and skill levels.
- Assess student progress and provide timely feedback to support growth and skill mastery.
- Maintain inventory, equipment, and instructional materials for the construction lab.
- Collaborate with school leadership, CTE staff, and community/business partners to strengthen student opportunities.
- Supervise students during all lab activities and ensure compliance with all school and safety protocols.
- Participate in professional development and maintain required certifications.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the administration.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Construction, Building Trades, or related field preferred.
- Valid North Carolina teaching license preferred.
- Industry experience in construction, carpentry, or skilled trades strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to teach and manage high school students effectively.
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to thrive in a high-paced environment while maintaining instructional quality and student safety.
