Position Overview
Uwharrie Charter Academy (UCA) is seeking a highly motivated, student-centered, and collaborative educational leader to serve as High School Assistant Principal. UCA is a public K–12 charter school located in Asheboro, North Carolina, providing a project-based learning environment with a STEAM-focused curriculum built upon the foundation of Relationships, Rigor, and Relevance.
The High School Assistant Principal will support the Principal in fostering a positive school culture, promoting academic excellence, and ensuring the successful operation of the high school. This position includes leadership of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, coordination of student internship opportunities, and oversight of facility maintenance communication and follow-up.
Essential Responsibilities
School Leadership
- Assist the Principal in the daily operation of the high school.
- Support student discipline and behavior management in accordance with school policies.
- Help maintain a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment.
- Supervise student activities, events, and school functions as assigned.
- Assist with teacher evaluations, instructional support, and professional growth initiatives.
- Support implementation of school improvement goals and strategic initiatives.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and families to promote student success.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Leadership
- Serve as the administrative leader for the high school CTE department.
- Support CTE teachers with curriculum implementation, program development, and compliance requirements.
- Monitor CTE program performance and student outcomes.
- Foster partnerships with local businesses, industries, and community organizations.
- Assist in identifying opportunities to expand and strengthen CTE pathways.
Student Internship Coordination
- Develop and maintain relationships with local employers and community partners.
- Coordinate internship, apprenticeship, and work-based learning opportunities for students.
- Ensure internship placements align with student career interests and educational goals.
- Monitor student participation and provide support throughout internship experiences.
- Collaborate with counselors, teachers, and employers to maximize student success.
Facilities and Maintenance Coordination
- Serve as the primary administrative point of contact for maintenance and facility-related concerns.
- Coordinate communication between school staff and maintenance personnel.
- Monitor facility work orders and ensure timely resolution of maintenance issues.
- Assist in identifying facility needs and prioritizing repairs and improvements.
- Support efforts to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming campus environment.
Additional Duties
- Attend school and community events as needed.
- Assist with student attendance initiatives and academic interventions.
- Support emergency management and school safety procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications
Required
- North Carolina Principal License or eligibility for licensure.
- Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of successful educational experience.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners.
- Demonstrated commitment to student achievement and school improvement.
Preferred
- Previous administrative experience at the secondary level.
- Experience with Career and Technical Education programs.
- Experience coordinating internships, work-based learning, or community partnerships.
- Familiarity with project-based learning and innovative instructional practices.
- Experience working in a charter school environment.
