Materials Assistant
Pay Grade: 37
Compensation/Benefits: $17.91 - $24.23/hr; Part-time benefits

Hours: 20 hrs/wk Part-time; Some days, evenings, and weekends

Role:
Removes library materials from shelves and catalog, prepares the item for discard, and inventories materials.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
40% - WEEDING AND REDISTRIBUTION –Removes items from library shelves based on weeding list or by performing conditional weeding; places weeded items onto weeding cart and/or routes to librarian or Supervisor for review. Redistributes duplicate materials to other libraries to help with the overflow of the floating collection. (Essential)
25% - INVENTORY – Scans items with the Digital Library Assistant (DLA) device, downloads data into DLA software, and forwards to the District Materials Supervisor in order to keep accurate records of the book inventory; searches for missing or problem items. (Essential)
15% - REPORT WRITING – Using Creates Lists program (report writer) in ILS, exports data to a spreadsheet, creates pivot tables, and uses formulas to identify items that may need to be weeded or redistributed to other locations. Routes items to appropriate Library or Supervisor. (Essential)
15% - PROCESSING – Applies labels and RFID tags; processes weeded items in preparation for data removal from ILS; sorts weeded items for the recycle bins, processes weeded items for shipment to reseller, or sends to Collection Resources via courier. (Essential)
5% - OTHER DUTIES – Creates and updates training materials using Word and video software, and assists Bibliographic Services as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the department. (Non-Essential)
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
Skill in arranging materials in numerical and alphabetical order
Skill in intermediate computer operation (preferred)
Valid Driver’s License and good driving record
Reasonable form of transportation.
Or any combination of education and experience which provides the success factors.
