The Role: After-Hours Nurse
As an After-Hours Nurse, you’ll be a vital lifeline for patients and families during evenings, nights, and weekends — times when comfort and reassurance mean the most. You’ll triage calls, make home visits as needed, and provide skilled, compassionate care to ensure comfort and peace for each patient and family you serve.
This position follows a 7 days on / 7 days off rotation, offering you the work-life balance and flexibility you deserve.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver compassionate, professional care using the full nursing process — assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Respond to patient and family needs after hours, providing guidance, teaching, and emotional support.
- Manage and document care accurately through our electronic health record (EMR) system.
- Support families in understanding the dying process, symptom management, and comfort care techniques.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary hospice team to ensure continuity and quality of care.
- Participate in hospice and community outreach efforts to promote understanding of the hospice philosophy.
What You Bring
- Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensed in New York State.
- Two (2) or more years of nursing experience; hospice or home health background preferred.
- Strong clinical judgment and calm presence under pressure.
- A compassionate, patient-centered approach to care.
- Reliable transportation, a valid NY driver’s license, and proof of auto insurance.
- Basic computer proficiency (EMR documentation).
