What are the responsibilities and job description for the 25-26 Head Start-Early Education Teacher position at High Grove Early Childhood Center?
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
8 hours/day; 12 months
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors Degree in Early Education or Bachelors Degree in a related area with 45 hours in Child Development required or Bachlors Degree not in Early Education and has passed the 5021 Early Education Praxis.
- Must lift, carry, and hold children up to 50 pounds.
- The ability to stoop, crawl, kneel and bend in order to speak to children at the childs eye level, to play with children and to pick up materials and equipment from the floor.
- Two or more years of experience in teaching children in the early education field preferred.
- Child Development Associate (CDA) and training with an infant/toddler focus or comparable credential from state of Missouri
OR: Be enrolled in the appropriate CDA (or commensurate program) within six months and have two years to become certified.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITITES:
1. Provide a nurturing and appropriate learning enviroment for children in the early education program.
2. Maintain orderly physical environment conducive to optimal growth and development of children.
3. Responsible for providing instructional direction using approved curriculum, lesson planning, documentation, and goal setting for children in the classroom.
4. Acquire a thorough knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards, integrating all areas into the education program.
5. Coordinate lesson plans and provide developmentally appropriate experiences that encourage diversity and recognize individual differences, regardless of special abilities, talents, ethnic heritage, culture, or language.
6. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with support staff and key building personnel.
7. Maintain visual and auditory awareness of children at all times to ensure their safety in the classroom and on the playground.
8. Know and use appropriate, positive guidance and discipline techniques.
9. Organize and implement authentic on-going student assessment, to include anecdotal notes, running records, checklists, portfolio items, etc.
10. Make a minimum of two home visits and two parent conferences per year and complete required reports on home visits and conferences.
11. Follow District and Federal Head Start procedures to safeguard the health and safety of children in the program.
12. Participate in making and following a professional development plan to be updated annually.
13. Follow District policies and procedures.
14. Maintain client confidentiality according to established policy.
15. Attend all required meetings, including designated evening meetings.
16. Submit an initial physical examination and tuberculin screening.
17 Obtain and maintain a current Food Handler's permit.
18. Perform other duties as assigned.
