Produce & Front End Team Member

Position Summary
High Falls Food Co-op is seeking a dependable and customer-focused team member to work a combined role supporting both our Produce and Front End departments.
This position includes stocking and maintaining fresh produce displays, assisting customers, operating the cash register, completing department tasks, and helping create a friendly and welcoming shopping experience. The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between departments, enjoys working with customers, and takes pride in keeping work areas clean, organized, and well stocked.
Set Work Schedule
Applicants must be available for the complete schedule below. These shifts are set:
- Thursday: Produce closing shift, 2:00 p.m.–7:30 p.m.
- Friday: Produce closing shift, 2:00 p.m.–7:30 p.m.
- Saturday: Produce opening shift, 8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
- Sunday: Front End/register, 10:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m.
- Monday: Front End/register, 11:30 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
Produce Responsibilities
- Receive and properly store produce deliveries according to department guidelines.
- Stock, rotate, spritz, and cull produce displays throughout the shift.
- Trim, wash, bundle, and prepare produce based on department priorities.
- Check displays for accurate signs and pricing.
- Remove damaged or spoiled products promptly and follow established shrink procedures.
- Clean produce cases, equipment, preparation areas, coolers, and storage spaces.
- Monitor cooler and walk-in temperatures and report equipment concerns.
- Assist customers with produce questions, product information, and special orders.
- Offer suggestions regarding product selection and preparation.
- Complete produce opening and closing responsibilities.
- Provide Front End break coverage when needed.
Front End Responsibilities
- Greet customers in a friendly, welcoming, and courteous manner.
- Provide an accurate, efficient, and positive checkout experience.
- Process purchases using the Co-op’s point-of-sale system.
- Follow all cash-handling procedures with accuracy and integrity.
- Count and verify till drawers before and after shifts as required.
- Immediately report cash discrepancies, register errors, or equipment issues.
- Process returns, exchanges, and refunds according to Co-op policy.
- Keep the register area clean, organized, and properly supplied.
- Answer phones and take messages as needed.
- Become familiar with Co-op membership and explain it clearly to customers.
- Complete Front End daily tasks and assist with stocking throughout the store.
- Stay informed by regularly reviewing workplace communications, including Slack, email, and mailbox notices.
Qualifications
- Excellent customer-service and communication skills.
- Dependable attendance and the ability to arrive on time for all scheduled shifts.

- Ability to follow instructions and complete assigned responsibilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Basic computer, cash-handling, and math skills.
- Willingness to learn about natural and organic foods, produce, and cooperative businesses.
- Previous retail, grocery, produce, or cashier experience is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work safely with knives and other produce equipment.
- Ability to work in refrigerated, wet, and cold conditions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain on your feet for most of the workday.
- Ability to regularly bend, squat, reach, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity necessary to operate a register, use a keyboard, and safely handle produce equipment.
About the Role
This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys variety and is comfortable working in two important areas of the store. Successful team members are friendly, reliable, self-motivated, attentive to detail, and willing to step in wherever support is needed.
