Job Responsibilities:

Instruct adult students in the knowledge, skills, abilities, and values they need for success in the field of veterinary medicine. Integrity College of Health's training programs include Veterinary Technology and Veterinary Assisting.

  • Manage the learning activities of students and prepare daily class activities based on approved course curriculum that include lesson plans and course syllabi
  • Ensure that necessary equipment, materials and supplies are available for the learning activities
  • Provide teaching in a variety of modalities including written, oral, and demonstration
  • Lecture in the subject areas responsible for, moving around the room to monitor student progress when students are working individually or in group activities
  • Integrate into lecture ancillary tools to enhance student learning of the subject matter being taught
  • Supervise hands-on lab exercises in the subject areas responsible for by walking through the room of students doing exercises to closely monitor their progress, provide feedback (both by verbally telling them and physically showing them), and assess their results
  • Serve as a first resource to students encountering problems
  • Maintain discipline and counsel students as necessary
  • Post attendance and submit to Registrar daily
  • Record daily grades on official grading software (Engrade) and submit final grades at end of each session
  • Prepare and administer quizzes and examinations
  • Maintain an attractive, clean, and safe classroom
  • Serve as a resource in subject area for revising curriculum, material selection and lesson plans

Personal Characteristics:

  • A good command of written and oral English
  • Ability to communicate clearly, verbally, nonverbally, and in writing, demonstrating appropriate grammar, vocabulary and word usage
  • Ability to interact effectively on an interpersonal level with students from a variety of social, emotional and educational backgrounds
  • An interest in working with and helping adult learners achieve success
  • Ability to maintain classroom control
  • A desire to work cooperatively with staff, administrators, and fellow instructors
  • A professional appearance and attitude toward work that serves as a model to students

Education and Training:

  • Demonstrate a good knowledge of subject matter through a minimum of three (3) years’ experience, or a combination of five (5) years’ experience and education in the area of instruction
  • Have appropriate licensure and/or certification for area of instruction taught
  • Know the requirements of the job for which students are training
  • Know vocabulary of education and terminology used in the veterinary field
  • Experience in teaching or training employees desirable

Environment:

  • Approximately 90% of the time performing job duties is spent indoors, within a standard office/classroom environment
  • Approximately 10% of the time may spent outdoors in a clinical or laboratory setting for access to wild, exotic, laboratory, small or large animal species.
  • Up to 25% of the time is spent on the computer
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • The temperature of the work environment is moderate and ranges from 65 – 80 degrees

Physical Demands:

  • Seldom (1–25%): heavy lifting (50-100 lbs), sitting, kneeling & crawling, climbing, phone utilization
  • Occasionally (26-50%): moderate lifting (20-50 lbs), stooping
  • Frequently (51-75%): keyboarding
  • Continuously (76-100%): light lifting (up to 20 lbs), pulling, pushing & carrying, reaching or working above shoulder, walking, standing, repeated bending, right & left hand fine motor skills, visual acuity, hearing and talking
  • Working with wild, exotic, laboratory, small and large animal species.
  • Machines, Tool And Equipment:
  • Seldom (1–5%): automobile, telephone
  • Occasionally (6-33%): copier, fax, and 10-key calculator
  • Frequently (34-66%): computer
  • Continuously (67-100%): writing instruments
  • Laboratory, Anesthesia, Surgical and Radiology equipment to fulfill curricular requirements of the program

Travel:

  • This job requires minimal routine travel of varying distances to the regular assigned work locations.
