Position Overview
HCE is seeking a motivated Civil Engineer with 1–5 years of experience to join our team. This position involves assisting with the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of civil engineering projects. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, eager to learn, and able to work collaboratively in a team environment. You will play an important role in delivering projects on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare stormwater management calculations, utility designs, and site grading plans under the guidance of the Project Engineer and Project Manager.
- Assist with the preparation of preliminary and final construction documents, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), permit applications, and technical reports.
- Coordinate with subconsultants to obtain required information for project design.
- Manage multiple tasks across concurrent projects while meeting established deadlines.
- Communicate proactively with the Project Manager regarding schedule constraints or challenges.
- Assist with project scheduling and identification of critical path tasks.
- Demonstrate a team-first attitude and provide support to colleagues as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited university (or related field).
- 1–5 years of relevant civil engineering experience.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to learn quickly with a strong desire to advance technical skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D; familiarity with GIS and related engineering software.
- Experience or coursework related to construction estimating and civil system design principles.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification (FE exam passed).
- Experience with:
- Site grading design
- Utility design (water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer)
- Stormwater management design
- Engineer’s Opinion of Probable Cost (EOPC)
