Position Summary
The Quality Lead / CMM Technician will perform precision dimensional inspections using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and other metrology tools to ensure all parts, components, and assemblies meet stringent engineering, contract, and defense quality standards. This position plays a vital role in supporting the company’s aerospace and defense contracts by verifying product requirements, integrity and providing accurate inspection data for internal and external reporting.
Key Responsibilities
· Operate and program Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) (e.g., Mitutoyo MCOSMOS, Zeiss Calypso, or equivalent) to perform first article, in-process, and final inspections.
· Interpret and apply engineering drawings, specifications, and Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to verify conformance to design requirements.
· Conduct dimensional inspections on parts and assemblies supporting DoD and OEM contracts in accordance with ISO9001 and DFARS 252.245-7003 property management requirements.
- Prepare and maintain inspection records, including First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs), Nonconformance Reports (NCRs), and Root Cause Corrective Actions (RCCA) Reports as required.
- Support corrective action and root cause analysis processes by providing detailed measurement data and dimensional studies.
- Utilize and maintain precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and surface plates.
- Ensure all metrology equipment is calibrated and traceable per ISO 17025 and company quality standards per the Quality Management System (QMS).
- Collaborate with Operations, Procurement, and Engineering teams to ensure timely resolution of quality issues and compliance with contract requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized inspection environment in accordance with High Bridge Solutions’ safety and quality procedures.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate or technical degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical Technology, or Quality Engineering preferred.
Experience: 1–3 years of CMM operation and programming experience within aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing environments.
- Proficient with CMM software (e.g., Mitutoyo MCOSMOS, Zeiss Calypso, or PC-DMIS).
- Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading.
- Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, etc.
- Familiarity with DFARS, and FAR compliance standards a plus.
- Familiarity with utilizing and interpreting drawings and specifications to support inspection and testing requirements.
- Knowledge of Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) inspection protocols and government source inspection procedures preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Tools, Excel and electronic data management systems.
- Excellent analytical skills, documentation accuracy, and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with portable metrology systems (FARO arm, laser scanners, or optical measurement tools such as Keyence XM 5000).
- Exposure to DoD supply chain quality assurance, inspection reporting, and contract traceability requirements.
- Experience supporting diminished manufacturing support, kitting, or material logistics operations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for operating precision measurement instruments.
- Visual acuity sufficient for detailed inspection work.
