This role requires collaboration with our panel shop and automation team to ensure designs meet specifications and deliver reliable, compliant solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Design UL508A-compliant control panels, ensuring adherence to relevant standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA 79).
- Generate accurate bills of materials (BOM) and optimize panel layouts for space, heat dissipation, and accessibility.
- Collaborate with panel shop teams to verify builds align with design specifications.
- Perform or oversee functional testing, continuity checks, and quality assurance for completed panels.
- Support field installations and troubleshoot issues during commissioning or post-delivery.
- Maintain technical documentation, including assembly instructions, user manuals, and compliance reports.
- Coordinate with vendors (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric, Siemens) to source components and ensure compatibility.
- Manage design revisions and maintain version control for drawings and schematics.
Required Skills and Experience
- 2 years of experience in electrical design, preferably for control panels, using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Proficiency in creating and modifying electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
- Knowledge of electrical controls, including relays, contactors, circuit breakers, and power distribution.
- Familiarity with industrial automation components such as PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, and SCADA systems.
- Experience with cable and wire management, including routing, sizing, and labeling.
- Ability to integrate programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and automation systems into designs.
- Knowledge of electrical safety protocols, including arc flash mitigation and grounding practices.
- Familiarity with vendors like Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Omron, or Mitsubishi Electric.
- Strong problem-solving skills to address design challenges and adapt to project needs.
- Excellent attention to detail to minimize errors and ensure compliance with specifications.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with shop floor teams, vendors, and clients.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Familiarity with UL508A standards (training provided if needed).
- Knowledge of 3D modeling tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD Inventor) for panel layout visualization. Helpful but not required.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical design, including enclosure selection (NEMA/IP ratings) and thermal management.
- Experience supporting customer interactions to clarify project requirements and provide updates.
Additional Requirements
- Project management skills to manage timelines and coordinate with suppliers.
- Continuous learning mindset to stay updated on AutoCAD Electrical features, vendor products, and industry trends.
- Ability to work in a cross-functional team with mechanical engineers, automation specialists, and production staff.
