Job Title: Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP-A/C)
Job Title: Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP-A/C)
Description: The Qualified Mental Health Professional-Adult or Child shall provide individualized training to enable individuals to achieve and maintain community stability and independence in the most appropriate, least restrictive environment.
Duties and responsibilities of the Mental Health Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP-A):
- Implementation of an Individualized Service Plan based on client needs
- Provides family relationship building and parenting skills training
- Provides case management services (indirect services) as needed.
- Provides training on activities of daily living as detailed in ISP
- Provides all required assessments, reports and service plans on time in agency format that meets the needs of the client and referring agency.
- Provides coordination between various agencies in accordance with case management principles.
- Makes contact on a weekly basis with referring agency.
- Maintains accurate documentation of clients’ current medication regiment and appointment compliance.
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation of service provision.
- Manages a small caseload of client and families
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles, techniques and practices related to the provision for community based mental health residential support services.
- Knowledge of casework documentation and requirements to assure compliance with regulator
- requirements
- Knowledge of mental illness and therapeutic interventions relating to children, adolescents and families.
- Knowledge of community resources and entitlement benefits.
- Ability to interact with referral sources and other community service providers.
- Ability to utilize clinical supervision to improve service delivery and documentation.
- Ability to develop and implement appropriate person centered plan.
- Successfully complete training in CPR & First Aid, behavioral management techniques
Education:
- Must be currently registered to practice as a Qualified Mental Health Professional-Adult by the Board of Counseling under the Department of Health Professions in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- The above requirement must be met through a current or past employer attesting that the educational and experience requirements for QMHP-A prior to December 31, 2017 have been met OR the person must meet the QMHP-A requirements below:

o Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, substance abuse, or marriage and family therapy from an accredited college or university, you need:

- Evidence you have had an internship or practicum of at least 500 hours of experience with persons who have a mental illness. (Verification of Internship/Practicum for QMHP form)
o Minimum of bachelor’s degree in a human services or related field from an accredited college, you need:
- To submit an official transcript
- Evidence of 1,500 hours of supervised experience obtained within a 5-year period immediately preceding the application for registration. (hours with adults with mental illness during an internship or practicum can be considered as part of the 1,500 hours of supervised experience requirement)
o Bachelor’s from an accredited college in an unrelated field, you need:
- To submit an official transcript
- 15 semester credits or 22 quarter hours in a human services field
- 3,000 hours of supervised experience to be obtained within a 5-year period immediately preceding application for registration
o License as a registered nurse in Virginia, you need:
- 1,500 hours of supervised experience to be obtained within a 5-year period immediately preceding application for registration.
o License as an occupational therapist in Virginia, you need:
- 1,500 hours of supervised experience to be obtained within a 5-year period immediately preceding application for registration.
Experience:
- The employee must successfully pass a criminal background and central registry checks and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must complete a minimum of 15 hours of training specific to the required components of mental health support services annually.
