Job Summary:

This position is in the counseling program at Hidden Creek Elementary School, where staff work to ensure a safe and positive learning environment based on consistency, respect, and high expectations, considering each child’s unique attributes while empowering them with significant competencies as they grow toward the future.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates as a department and school team member with responsibility for counseling services of assigned students
  • Participates with other staff to cooperatively plan, develop, and implement a comprehensive counseling program
  • Participates with other staff to cooperatively develop effective, positive techniques for improving student behavior
  • Provides positive assistance and guidance to a diverse population
  • Maintains student, counseling, and confidential records
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students and their parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse and report student progress to parents regularly
  • Participates in child guidance discussions with students to provide appropriate programs for their educational level
  • Participates in staff meetings, planning events, and department/unit meetings
  • Participates in the total building program, including assemblies, contests, and other student activities
  • Works cooperatively with total building staff in an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality
  • Demonstrates ability to provide student orientation services.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Valid Washington State ESA Certificate for counseling required
  • Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, possess a strong professional orientation, and be willing to actively participate in a team environment
  • Demonstrate successful elementary counseling experience is preferred
  • Demonstrate knowledge of effective counseling strategies
  • Demonstrate knowledge of new technology and experience with student scheduling through use of the computer
  • Demonstrate ability to counsel individuals, as well as small and large groups
  • Demonstrate commitment to fostering a positive attitude and safe environment for students, self and others
  • Possess strong interpersonal relationship skills
  • Ability to facilitate parent, student, and teacher conferences
  • Ability to counsel in a developmentally appropriate manner for secondary school students
  • Ability to provide the appropriate role model for secondary school students in a counseling setting
  • Knowledge of current rules and regulations involved in the area of counseling and confidentiality
