About the Role:  

Under the immediate supervision of the Executive Director, the Director of Nursing is responsible for... 

  • Setting patient care standards, establishing processes and protocols for achieving those standards, and managing the work of nurses who care for patients.
  • Maintaining operations of the Nursing Department to ensure that the highest degree of quality client care always maintained in accordance with State and Federal Regulations, facility policies & procedures, and patient directives.

 

The Director of Nursing (DON) is a lead management member of the nursing team, functioning as the primary facilitator responsible for nursing services provided for clients with addictions and behavioral health issues.

Job Qualifications: 

  • BSN or MSN completed from an accredited school of Nursing and current BLS certification
  • Valid active RN license
  • Minimum 4 years of psychiatric nursing experience required
  • Holds voluntary certification in psychiatric and mental health nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Association preferred
  • Ability to maintain strict client confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
  • Ability to follow directives explicitly, intrinsic motivation, patient-driven services disposition, excellent time management skills, team approach, advanced computer skills.
  • The ability to prioritize and multi-task, with exceptional time management skills.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record and provide own insured transportation.
  • Completion of CPR and HWC prior to working the floor
  • Schedule flexibility may be REQUIRED to accommodate patient admissions.

 

Key Responsibilities:  

    • Develop and implement nursing strategic plans that align with company mission and goals
    • Establish nursing practice standards that promote trauma-informed, recovery-oriented care
    • Recruits and interviews potential new hires
    • Provides job-specific training for new hires and ongoing to ensure processes and procedures are followed.
    • Design and manage professional development programs for nursing staff for continuing education
    • Lead nurse engagement and retention initiatives to reduce turnover and build a positive work culture
    • Implement competency-based training programs to ensure staff proficiency in de-escalation, crisis intervention and behavioral health protocols
    • Ensure effective nursing staffing models that balance patient needs, acuity and budget considerations
    • Develop nursing policies and procedures to support safe, ethical and consistent care delivery
    • Monitor nursing quality metrics; patient satisfaction, falls, medication administration accuracy, and incident reporting.
    • Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration by ensuring nursing representation in treatment planning
    • Represent nursing interests in executive leadership meetings
    • Oversee daily nursing operations across inpatient units
    • Works floor nursing shifts and cover breaks as needed.
    • Ensure compliance with DMHA, Life Safety Regulations, and Joint Commission Requirements
    • Complete accurate and timely monthly reports to Corporate Office to identify trends & opportunities-seclusion/restraints, infection control, meeting minutes etc.
    • Responsible for infection control surveillance and responding to variances.
    • Completes corrective action summaries and recommends disciplinary action to CEO.
    • Monitor labor hours and overtime of staff
    • Approves time and payroll records for nursing department
    • Oversees accurate census keeping.
    • Audits the nursing charts to ensure timely & accurate documentation. 
    • Works with licensed practitioner to reconcile client medications along the continuum.
    • Monitors and maintains HIPAA compliance.
    • Ensures OSHA and employee illness or injury procedures are followed.
    • Activates the Emergency Management Plan when conditions require.
    • Reports unsafe conditions to Executive Leadership
    • Performs appropriate hand hygiene throughout the shift.
    • Uses personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately.

Compensation: $90,000 - $110,000/yr
