PURPOSE

 

This position will assist with maintaining the tennis program. Through the “love of sport” we hope to deepen each student’s capacity for character development. As a member of our teams’ students will learn to be accountable; to demonstrate commitment, teamwork, and self-sacrifice; to deal with success and failure; and to strive for excellence each time they compete.  To support this, we will do our best to hire coaches and sponsors who will be transformative leaders and role models for Passion, Composure, Self-Discipline, Perseverance, Respect and Integrity. Our athletic/activity programs are here to provide students with a positive competitive experience as an extension to their academic education.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Assisting with maintaining the tennis program.
  • Maintaining positive communication with patrons and parents of athletes and potential athletes.
  • Assisting with off-season camps and conditioning programs.
  • Encouraging good sportsmanship and enthusiasm for the sport.
  • Collaborating with other coaches to ensure a comprehensive approach to athletes.
  • Ensuring compliance with MSHSAA.
  • Maintaining statistics on all players.

Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

 

Reports To:       Building Principal, Building Athletic Director and Head Coach Tennis

Supervises:       None

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Minimum:  60 hours of college credit is required; Missouri Substitute teaching certificate is required;

Sport First Aid Course is required.

 

If hired as a coach via a substitute certificate, the individual must satisfactorily complete (make a grade of 80% to pass) a MSHSAA approved coaches education program (NFICEP) before he/she can be hired for a coaching position in any subsequent year. In addition, all coaches despite certification status must attend a NFICEP first-aid class and pass the exit test given at that time. 

 

Preferred:  Bachelor’s degree; Missouri teaching certificate; Prior teaching/coaching experience.

 

Ideal candidate will have a professional and friendly demeanor with a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals in a fast-paced environment. Ideal candidate will have prior experience with coaching tennis.

Language:  Read, analyze and interpret professional journals, Board policy, administrative procedures and forms and governmental regulations and guidance; Complete forms and write reports; Present information effectively and respond to questions

 

Computation: Perform basic mathematical functions such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing; Apply concepts; such as, fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning:  Solve a variety of problems in many different situations; Interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form; Apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students

 

Other Skills and Abilities: Identify needs and abilities of individual students and to adapt instructional methods accordingly; establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, administrators, and parents; perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

 

Technology: Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use; Use district software for finding student information; Utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district.

 

Physical Demands:  Speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously; Move around a classroom, gymnasium, and playing field; Read handwritten or printed material

 

Attendance:  Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position: Requires frequent evening and/or weekend work related to practice and competition; Evenings and/or weekends travel to accompany students to games and meets.  

 

Sensory Requirements:  The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking.

 

Conditions and Environment: The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active.  The individual will be required to work outdoors.
