Salary Range:
$30,743.44 - $59,344.48Under general supervision dismounts, inspects, repairs, remounts and determines the reparability of wheels, tires and tubes on motor vehicles and equipment.
ESSENTIAL EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
The following illustrates examples of some of the essential duties and responsibilities of the Tire Repairperson. There may be other essential functions, not listed below, in order to accomplish the tasks as presented by the Supervisor.
- Inspects tire and wheel assemblies mounted on motor vehicle equipment.
- Examines the inside and outside surfaces of pneumatic tires for cracks, breaks, soft spots, bruises,
- Examines wheels and rims of tires and securing devices for cracks, damaged or bent surfaces,
- Raises motor vehicles and removes tires and wheel assemblies using pneumatic, hydraulic or manual
- Examines tires and tubes to determine cause of trouble.
- Repairs tires and tubes by hot or cold processes.
- Checks and replaces valve stems and cores.
- Remounts new or repaired tires on motor vehicles or equipment.
- Uses hand and pneumatically operated wrenches, bead releases, tire removal tools, tire spreaders,
- Maintains and insures proper and adequate handling, storage, and protection of assigned tools,
- Observes prescribed safety precautions/practices and operating techniques/procedures.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
The following are some of the physical requirements associated with this position. Reasonable accommodation may be made by the City to enable an individual to perform the essential duties/functions of the position.
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment such as hand tools, etc.
- Must be able to see and distinguish colors, hear and smell.
- Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Work involves walking more than a mile per day, climbing stairs and ladders, moving, force reaching, handling, bending, and stooping for periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to 70 pounds.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- A general knowledge of tools and materials used in tire repair work, tire sizes used on light and heavy
- Ability to perform semi-skilled and skilled work in connection with tire repair and automotive servicing
- Possess mechanical aptitude, physical strength and agility.
- Ability to follow written and oral directions.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- One-year experience as an automotive serviceperson or tire repairperson.
- Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license.
