What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fiber Splicing Technician position at HI TECH UTILITY CONSTRUCTION?
HiTech Utility Construction is looking to develop a team full of character and commitment. A Fiber Splicing Technician works with direct supervision and guidance from our Fiber Supervisor.
Experience
- Three or more years of experience splicing and testing fiber optic cable
- Three or more years troubleshooting fiber optic cable damages
- Experience using a bucket truck and aerial work is preferred (Bucket truck certification a plus)
- Experience getting into vaults and manholes is preferred (Confined space training a plus)
Qualifications
- Ability to pass pre-employment screening.
- Valid Driver's License
- Finger & wrist dexterity & hand/eye coordination.
- Ability to work from heights such as ladders, bucket trucks, man lifts, scissor lifts & roof tops utilizing proper fall protection.
- Ability to use small hand tools.
- Ability to use power tools.
- Ability to use color code for fiber.
- Climbing of stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds.
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, lift up to 50 lbs., and drive a vehicle.
Responsibilities
- Splicing, testing and troubleshooting fiber optic cable.
- Maintain a clean, neat, professional appearance.
- Help load and unload daily supplies and equipment on to and off of company vehicles.
- Possess the desire and ability to work with hand tools and perform a wide variety of “hands-on tasks” related to the fiber optic network.
- Knowledgeable on the proper use of basic hand tools.
- Ability to act in a professional and courteous manner on all matters involving the customer.
- Maintain a professional working attitude with co-workers and customers at all times and adhere to safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to complete the tasks assigned in a timely manner.
- Use proper care on all company assets to avoid breakage, misuse, theft, etc.
- Complete and submit basic paperwork (timecards, material forms, etc.) according to client and company policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by Manager.

Working Conditions
- Job is usually performed in indoor/outdoor environments under multiple environmental conditions.
- Ability to accept periodic assignments that involve travel away from immediate district office area based on client needs, business needs and project scope.
- Exposure to noisy or dusty conditions; chemicals & solvents; mechanical, electrical, and/or other hazards.
- Hours may vary depending on workload, must be able to work long hours as needed.
- On-Call is a part of this position and may require night time work/travel
- Must be able to work in the United States.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23.00 - $40.00 per hour
