Job Summary
The CNC Cutting Equipment Operator is responsible for ensuring the efficient programming, operation, and maintenance of all CNC cutting equipment within HTIW Construction. This role focuses on maximizing productivity during working hours by programming cutting equipment, setting up machinery, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with production teams to achieve quality standards and meet project deadlines. When not actively engaged with equipment and cutting tasks, the individual will assist other shop and office personnel with relevant tasks to maintain overall workflow efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
0. Safety:
- Adhere to all safety policies.
- Acknowledge that equipment in use is extremely dangerous and read/understand all recommended safety efforts by HTIW and by the manufacturer.
- Assist other shop and office staff of understanding safety protocols and procedures on and around heavy equipment.
1. Programming & Setup
- Develop and optimize CNC programs for cutting equipment based on project blueprints, CAD models, or design specifications.
- Set up and calibrate CNC cutting machines, ensuring correct tooling, alignment, and parameters for each job.
- Regularly refine programs to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and ensure precise cuts.
2. Operations Management:
- Operate CNC cutting machines, monitor processes, and ensure machines run efficiently during designated working hours.
- Manage workflow to maximize equipment uptime and productivity.
- Proactively address potential delays by adjusting schedules and coordinating with team leads.
3. Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
- Perform regular equipment inspections and routine maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical or mechanical issues with cutting equipment promptly.
- Coordinate with technical support or service providers when advanced repairs are required.
- This role is in charge of and in operation of extremely expensive corporate equipment. Care, maintenance, and proper usage/storage/security techniques will be trained on and required.
4. Collaboration & Training:
- Work closely with production and design teams to ensure cutting programs align with project requirements.
- Train other operators or team members on proper use and maintenance of CNC cutting equipment.
- Provide feedback to management on potential process improvements or equipment upgrades.
5. Support for Shop and Office Personnel:
- Assist other shop personnel with tasks such as material handling, inventory management, and general shop maintenance when not actively operating CNC equipment.
- Collaborate with office personnel on project planning, documentation, and workflow optimization.
- Contribute to team efforts to ensure overall production goals are met.
6. Quality Assurance:
- Ensure all cuts meet or exceed quality standards and specifications.
- Conduct inspections of workpieces to verify accuracy and troubleshoot inconsistencies.
7. Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of CNC programs, machine settings, maintenance schedules, and completed jobs.
- Report daily productivity metrics, including downtime, issues, and project status, to management.
Key Goals:
- Achieve 100% equipment productivity during working hours.
- Minimize downtime by implementing preventative maintenance and efficient troubleshooting.
- Deliver projects within timelines while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Contribute to shop and office activities during downtime to enhance overall team efficiency.
- Grow into CNC & Material Processing Journeyman Programmer & Operator and then to CNC Material Processing Foreman.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a CNC Operator, preferably with cutting equipment (e.g., laser, plasma, waterjet, or similar).
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, AutoCAD, or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of G-code and other relevant programming languages.
- Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with industrial cutting tools and materials.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Strong ability to use Bluebeam, Tekla PowerFab, Tekla Structures, Trimble Connect, VersaFab, Flex3D/Lantek, ProNest, and all other operations platforms.

Preferred Skills:
- Experience in the construction industry, specifically with Steel applications.
- Familiarity with material properties and cutting techniques for specialized materials. Specifically plasma cutting.
Working Conditions:
- This role may require standing for extended periods, rigging/lifting heavy materials, working with hot/sharp and working in an industrial environment.
- Safety equipment and adherence to company safety policies are mandatory.
- This role will be partially indoor at a desk and outdoor at a computer.
