What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor position at Hi-lex Controls Inc?
Leads and educates the manufacturing and industrial engineers to develop, design, assemble, and implement tooling/machine and processes necessary to produce new products and enhance existing products. Designs line layout to ensure efficiency. Investigates and resolves production line or tooling/machine design problems. Recommends purchases of capital equipment.
Essential Functions:
Secondary Functions:
- Assists and educates the manufacturing and industrial engineers to design, develop, and implement production line layout or tooling/machine design or design modifications to meet or exceed company goals, efficiency, quality and cost.
- Assists the Manufacturing Engineering Manager in the operational and fiscal activities in Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance group.
- Determines cost of implementing new product on line layout.
- Assists in planning and implementation of plant expansion.
- Develops work methods to improve production operator efficiency through quality tracking, interviews with associates, review of production line performance and training.
- Identifies and selects vendors to order tooling/equipment, fixtures, and supplies and recommends orders as necessary.
- Negotiating, contracting, implementing, and managing machine builders.
- Performs tracking of production line performances.
- Coordinates transportation and sample builds.
- Review products design, equipment design and process FMEA.
- Research, develop and implement the latest technology for equipment design and implement of the processes.
- Assists in management of employee performance. Recommends job duties and employee status changes.
- Assists in developing and maintaining Engineering Equipment Standards.
- Assists in the development of policies and procedures. Both corporate and departmental
- Support Product Engineering for the design for manufacturability.
- Assists in the development of skill improvement training for Mfg. Engineering department associates.
Secondary Functions:
- Serves on various committees as needed
- (Back up for Manufacturing Engineering Manager and assistant Manager
- Performs other duties as necessary.
Specialized Training, Skills, Abilities, Experience:
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- 4 year degree in mechanical engineering or engineering technology or equivalent field.
- Minimum 5 years experience in production line or tooling/machine design.
- Knowledge of blueprints, process analysis, and drafting terminology.
- Knowledge of broad machine shop and basic accounting principles.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Office environment with noise from computer peripherals such as printers and disk drives.
- Factory environment with noise from manufacturing environment. Exposure to moving equipment, parts and electrical shock, also exposed to burns around die castings. Possible serious injury due to carelessness around equipment.
- Sometimes lifts, carries or moves objects - up to 50 pounds, daily lifts, carries or moves objects - up to 25 pounds.
