Job Description

Join the team at Hilo Benioff Medical Center and play a vital role in creating a safe, clean, and healing environment for patients, families, and staff. As an Environmental Services Worker II, you will directly support patient care by maintaining high sanitation standards across the hospital. Your work ensures comfort, safety, and dignity for every individual who walks through our doors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of patient rooms, restrooms, common areas, and hospital facilities using approved disinfectants
  • Collect, transport, and dispose of regular, infectious, and pathological waste in accordance with safety protocols
  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment, including floor care machines for stripping, waxing, and carpet maintenance
  • Restock supplies such as paper products, soap, and linens to ensure continuous availability
  • Clean and disinfect specialized areas including isolation rooms, intensive care units, and surgical suites while following strict safety procedures
  • Move and handle furniture, beds, and equipment safely to ensure thorough cleaning of all areas


Required Qualifications
: To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experiences are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • Knowledge of janitorial practices, cleaning tools, and materials
  • Ability to operate industrial cleaning equipment and perform physically demanding tasks
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain patient confidentiality

  • Rates listed for paid holidays, vacation and sick days are for 1.0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) positions assigned to 8 hour shifts. Accruals for these benefits are otherwise prorated based on FTE.

Pre-Employment Health Requirements

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

Must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays as necessary based on hospital operations. Services are provided 24/7.
