Job Description
We are seeking an Emergency Room Assistant (Entry Level or Full Performance) to join our team. This vital role involves providing paraprofessional nursing care to emergency room patients, ensuring quality support in a fast-paced medical environment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Experience, Knowledge, and Abilities: Candidates must have at least two (2) years of professional experience in independently observing and documenting various physical and mental symptoms, as well as implementing care and treatment procedures for acute care patients. This experience should demonstrate proficiency in basic nursing skills, including vital sign measurement, output tracking, and recognition of abnormal symptoms. Additional essential knowledge includes first aid, patient rights, universal precautions, infection control, body mechanics, and fundamental medical and nursing terminology.
Applicants must also possess strong communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and speak simple English sentences, as well as accurately follow oral and written instructions. The ability to assist in providing paraprofessional nursing care to emergency room and outpatient patients is crucial. Prior experience in an emergency room setting is preferred.
Prerequisite Qualifications Required for Full Performance:
Experience, Knowledge, and Abilities: In addition to the entry-level qualifications, candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience in a hospital emergency room setting. This experience should include formal training and/or hands-on learning in emergency medical practices, techniques, procedures, equipment, and supplies. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to apply this knowledge effectively while assisting professional nurses in providing care to emergency room patients.
This experience must showcase proficiency in emergency medical practices and procedures, functional anatomy and human physiology, as well as the operation and maintenance of emergency equipment and instruments. Candidates should be capable of assessing the condition of injured or ill patients, identifying life-threatening symptoms, administering emergency treatment, and utilizing specialized emergency medical tools effectively.
Substitutions Allowed:
Completion of a practical nursing or professional nursing curriculum from an accredited school substitutes for one (1) year of experience required at the entry level.
Excess experience of the advanced level of pre-hospital and inter-hospital emergency care may be substituted on a year-for-year basis at the entry level.
Current registration as a Paramedic or Mobile Intensive Care Technician (MICT) by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians substitutes for one (1) year of experience required at the entry or full performance level.
Current registration as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and nine (9) months of hospital emergency room experience substitutes for one (1) year of experience required at the entry or full performance level.
Successful completion of a State of Hawaii-approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic training program and nine (9) months of hospital emergency room experience substitutes for one (1) year of experience required at the entry or full performance level.
Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) is preferred. Please submit copy of certification with the application.
Desirable Qualifications: Ability to remain composed/calm manner and effectively manage emergency situations while providing appropriate care. Strong communication skills to interact with distressed or agitated individuals in a professional and compassionate manner.

Pre-Employment Health Requirements
Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

Shift Details
Must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays as necessary based on hospital operations. Services are provided 24/7.
