Job Description
We are seeking a qualified Catholic Mass Music Director/Musician to provide musical leadership for the 0900 Sunday Catholic Mass at the Langley Air Force Base Chapel.
This role involves leading congregational singing, providing instrumental accompaniment, directing choir and cantors, and selecting appropriate Catholic liturgical music in coordination with the Catholic Priest/Chaplain.
This is a stable, long-term, part-time role with predictable scheduling in a professional military chapel environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide music for weekly Sunday Catholic Mass (organ/keyboard and/or vocals)
- Select and prepare appropriate Catholic liturgical music
- Lead congregational singing
- Direct choir and train cantors (volunteers)
- Conduct weekly rehearsals (minimum 60 minutes)
- Support special Masses and Holy Days as scheduled
- Coordinate closely with the Catholic Priest/Chaplain and chapel staff
- Ensure compliance with music copyright and licensing requirements
- Operate chapel sound system as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music OR equivalent experience in Catholic liturgical music
- Ability to read, sight-read, teach, and perform music
- Proficiency on organ or keyboard appropriate for Catholic Mass
- Experience leading congregational singing
- Familiarity with Catholic liturgical guidelines
- Ability to recruit and lead volunteer choir members
- Professional demeanor and comfort working in a military environment
- Ability to pass a background check and obtain base access
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
- Pipe organ experience
- Familiarity with Gregorian Chant and polyphonic sacred music
- Prior military chapel experience

Schedule
- Sunday Catholic Mass at 9:00 AM (weekly)
- One weekly rehearsal
- Occasional special services (Holy Days of Obligation, funerals, etc. – up to ~10/year)
