Responsibilities
- Safely operate commercial trucks such as tractor-trailers, flatbeds, tankers, or refrigerated trailers on over-the-road (OTR) routes.
- Load and unload freight efficiently using manual handling techniques and equipment like forklifts when necessary.
- Navigate using GPS systems to ensure timely deliveries across designated routes while complying with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Transport hazardous materials and dangerous goods following hazardous materials regulations and safety protocols.
- Manage truck loading and unloading processes, including freight inspection, securing cargo, and documentation.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, vehicle inspections, and delivery records in compliance with FMCSA and DOT regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding route changes, delivery schedules, or safety concerns.
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on route driving and delivery driving.
- Familiarity with various types of trucks such as tractor-trailers, flatbeds, tankers, refrigerated trailers, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, or freight carriers.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials regulations (Hazmat) and the safe handling of dangerous goods.
- Experience with truck loading/unloading procedures and logistics cargo handling.
- Ability to operate manual transmission trucks confidently and safely.
- Prior experience with delivery driver responsibilities including route planning and customer service is highly desirable.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements relevant to the types of freight transported; additional certifications such as Hazmat endorsement are a plus.
