Hettrick, Cyr & Associates Inc., a leader in health and safety consulting services, is seeking an experienced professional for the position of Fleet Safety & Risk Control Specialist.
This individual will support our growing client base in the development, oversight, coordination, training, evaluation, and compliance of fleet safety programs in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations. The position functions in a consultative capacity, working directly with client organizations to evaluate fleet safety programs, identify risk exposures, and develop practical solutions to improve regulatory compliance and reduce losses.
The role will primarily focus on large auto fleet operations, including heavy trucking, bus, and commercial fleet exposures, and requires familiarity with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR). The position may also support public transportation operations and private organizations with smaller fleet safety programs. Responsibilities include implementing industry best practices, developing training materials, performing loss analysis and trending, and conducting Underwriting Fleet Risk Control Assessments and compliance support.
Experience performing insurance risk control services for heavy trucking, bus, and commercial fleet operations is strongly preferred.Candidates with fleet safety management or DOT compliance experience will also be considered if they have a strong understanding of transportation risk management and loss prevention practices. Experience in general industry environments such as warehousing, distribution, and manufacturing is highly desirable. In addition to transportation-related exposures, this role may assist clients with broader workplace safety initiatives, including hazard assessments, safety program development, compliance evaluations, and employee safety training related to applicable OSHA General Industry standards.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Duties include both transportation fleet risk control consulting and broader workplace safety advisory services for client organizations.
- Prepare written risk control reports outlining observations, risk exposures, and recommended corrective actions for client management and insurance partners
- Review fleet safety loss data to identify trends, contributing factors, and opportunities for loss reduction
- Assist insured clients with the development and implementation of fleet safety policies and programs
- Develop training materials and tools to support client fleet safety program implementation and driver safety initiatives
- Assist clients with the implementation and use of technology systems for DOT compliance, including driver qualification files, training records, and electronic logging device (ELD) oversight
- Organize and conduct safety meetings, training sessions, and fleet safety presentations
- Assist with investigations of motor vehicle incidents, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITIES:
- Strong coordination, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with client management and operational personnel
- Working knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, and standards related to trucking and transportation safety, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR)
- Knowledge of accident prevention principles, fleet safety management practices, and transportation risk mitigation strategies
- Ability to apply management principles and safety program development practices to assist clients in implementing effective fleet safety programs
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work in a consultative role with diverse client organizations
- Analytical ability to review loss data, incident reports, and operational practices to identify trends and recommend corrective actions
- Familiarity with OSHA 29 CFR 1910 General Industry standards and experience providing safety inspections and risk control recommendations in workplace environments is desirable
- Ability to travel periodically, including overnight travel, to support a national client base
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience within the insurance industry in a risk control or advanced operational role involving fleet safety exposures
- Experience assisting with training, management, and enforcement of employee fleet safety programs, including program implementation, accident investigation, and loss prevention
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety, Risk Management, or a related field preferred
- Experience developing and implementing occupational health and safety programs
- Familiarity with modern transportation safety technologies, including fleet management, DOT compliance, and ELD systems
- Experience applying adult learning principles to deliver effective safety and health training for employees
- Fluency in English required; Spanish preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
