Land Surveyor Assistant

A surveyor assistant is a field technician who supports a licensed surveyor in collecting and marking survey data, including staking control points, boundary lines, and construction layout markers such as polls (survey stakes).

Key Responsibilities

• Fieldwork: Conduct surveying tasks like topographic, boundary, ALTA land title, or construction layout surveys.
• Staking: Pound and mark stakes (polls) into the ground at specified locations to guide construction, grading, or boundary marking.
• Instrument operation: Set up and operate surveying equipment such as theodolites, GPS units, and total stations to take accurate measurements.
• Data recording: Maintain detailed field notes, sketches, and logs of staking activities.
• Coordination: Work with surveyors, engineers, and contractors to ensure staking meets project specifications.
• Physical tasks: Carry and lift equipment 20 lbs, climb ladders, and stand/walk for extended periods.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• US work permit and valid driver’s license with reliable transportation
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented, dependable, and punctual

Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency with surveying instruments and software.
• Understanding of surveying principles and construction layout.
• Ability to interpret and follow survey plans.
• Basic math and measurement skills.
