JOB GOAL:  To use leadership, supervisory skills, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of all students so that through such development, student achievement will be enhanced and school accreditation ensured.

 

RESPONSIBLE TO:  Superintendent of Schools

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

1.  Must hold, or be eligible to obtain, an appropriate Kansas administrative license
2.  Masters degree required
3.  Must have no less than five years of successful teaching experience
4.  Building level administrative experience preferred but not required
5.  Must be willing to conduct training for district personnel
6.  Must be willing to be trained in areas deemed necessary

 

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:

1.  Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking
2.  Prolonged periods of time viewing a computer screen
3.  Physical exertion to manually move, pull, or push heavy objects or materials
4.  Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds unassisted
5.  Stooping, bending, reaching, kneeling, and turning
6.  Occasional work in noisy, crowded, stressful environments with numerous interruptions
7.  Driving skills and physical ability to operate motor vehicles including ability to operate at night
8.  Some travel required

 

TERMS:

1.  Length of contract is 10.5 months
2.  Salary and benefits determined annually by the Board of Education

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.  Support the district’s vision and framework

2.  Organize and administer the overall instructional program of the school

3.  Implement all policies and statutes as determined by various governmental agencies, the Kansas State Department of Education, and the local board of education
4.  Provide leadership in implementing the district’s commitment to full compliance with civil rights legislation, rules, and regulations

5.  Assume responsibility for completing all forms and reports as stipulated by various regulatory agencies

6.  Coordinate the selection, assignment, and evaluation of certified teaching staff as well as selected classified personnel

7.  Plan and facilitate staff development opportunities for certified personnel

8.  Cultivate staff behaviors which result in positive, constructive student/adult relationships

9.  Evaluate the effectiveness of teaching methodologies and provide assistance when necessary in the implementation of new teaching interventions

10.  Oversee teacher’s performance as it relates to the teaching of district curriculum standards

11.  Delegate duties for effective staff utilization but assume final responsibility for the overall school program

12.  Implement effective procedures for ensuring a safe and orderly learning environment

13.  Monitor the assessments of all students in district standards and use data to make decisions within the context of the school improvement process

14.  Initiate the district’s student intervention process for students requiring educational support

15.  Maintain appropriate student records as required by statute and board policy

16.  Develop an atmosphere of respect, trust, interest, and enthusiasm within the school

17.  Communicate openly and effectively with students, community, staff, and administration

18.  Promote positive working relationships with parents and patrons in the community

19.  Work with and assist the various parent organizations (i.e., Hesston Elementary Parents, Parent-Teacher Organization, Booster Club)

20.  Provide direction and organization for the building’s site advisory council

21.  Prepare and administer the building’s education program budget in a manner consistent with the district’s accounting process
22.  Maintain an inventory of all equipment in the building

23.  Collaborate with district level support personnel when needed (e.g., curriculum coordinator, supervisor of operations, food service director, school nurse, social worker, computer technicians)

24.  React to change productively, positively, and effectively

25.  Cooperate with various news media to promote district activities in a positive manner

26.  Work with other supervisory personnel (e.g., activities, operations, food service) to select, assign, and evaluate other personnel assigned to the building

27.  Network with educational leaders at state, regional, and national levels

28.  Serve as a member of various district level committees (e.g., district leadership team, administrative cabinet, administrative council)

29.  Keep abreast of local, state, and national trends and research by attending staff development conferences and reading professional literature

30.  Conduct staff development for district personnel on various topics

31.  Perform other duties as required and/or assigned by district office administration
