PERQUIMANS COUNTY SCHOOLS JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: TEMPORARY PART-TIME TUTOR 10-15 Hours a week (Until funding is exhausted.)
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Provides concentrated services during the school day on a one-on-one and one-to-small group basis to students with identified academic deficiencies. Works in cooperation with the regular classroom teacher regarding instructional needs and services. Reports to the school principal or principal’s designee.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Works with individuals and small groups to reinforce, help remediate, and generally assists in instruction.
Maintains an awareness of individual student needs, strengths, weaknesses, and problems.
Tutors students according to directions given by teacher(s).
Provides feedback to the teacher(s) related to the behavior of and comprehension by the students.
Assists students with understanding routines, rules, and regulations.
Conducts self as a role model to the students.
Maintains awareness of goals and objectives for each student and demonstrates understanding and participation in the program goals.
Records data regarding attendance, achievement, health, behavior, and other information as necessary.
Works and communicates effectively with other staff members serving the students.
Maintains confidentiality in matters pertaining to each student.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Other related duties as may be assigned by the principal.
Receives training and in-service pertinent to the job function.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Min. 2-year degree or must have completed at least two years of higher education or 48 semester hours of college coursework. Bachelor’s degree preferred in education or a related field. A transcript verifying this will be required and must be included in the application packet.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to sit, stand, and walk. Physical demand requirements are for Light Work.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions or directions to students in English and relevant non-English languages.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to read and write in English and a relevant non-English language. Requires the ability to prepare time sheets using the prescribed format.
Reasoning Ability: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, and to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English and relevant non-English languages.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas, to add, subtract, divide, and multiply.
Manual Dexterity: Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress.
Physical Communications: Requires the ability to talk, see, and hear.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children.
Working knowledge of language levels of different age groups.
Ability to impart information to the child’s level of comprehension.
Considerable knowledge of correct English and relevant non-English language usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Working knowledge of subjects taught.
Ability to apply impartially and consistently proper methods of recognition, reward, and punishment.
Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in completing work assignments.
Ability to follow minimally detailed written and oral instructions without constant supervision.
Ability to record and store data accurately.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in both English and a relevant non-English language.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, and volunteers.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
