What are the responsibilities and job description for the On-Call Substitute Classroom Assistant position at Hershey Montessori School?
Hershey Montessori School is seeking a calm, integrated individual who are interested in learning about a Montessori approach to children and assisting teachers in classrooms for children ranging in age from 12 months to 12 years old. A passion for working with children and willingness to learn is essential. This role is on an on-call basis and the hours could be anywhere between 7:15am and 5:00pm.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Be able to prepare and maintain the order and beauty of the children’s learning environment.
- Support and lead children individually and collectively as guided by the Montessori teacher.
- Assist with providing an environment that is peaceful and optimal for the child’s independence, social communication, and their engagement in challenging activity.
- Observe and guide children’s interaction both indoors and outdoors.
- Seek opportunities to connect children to the natural environment and to foster passion for the stewardship of our earth and our interdependence upon it.
- Embrace authentic heart-centered respect for children and adults alike.
- Model a deep commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice
- Past experience preparing planned meals for young children is a plus, but not required.
Applicants must be comfortable with the job aspects that include being physically active in the indoor and outdoor environments daily during all seasons. This includes, but is not limited to, standing, walking, stooping, lifting 40 pounds, and being able to get down and up off of the floor.
