SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Provides support to the director and direction to the staff, and facilitates the workflow through the department. Responsible for ensuring all instruments (e.g., exchange carts, par level carts, instrument sets and single peel packs) and emergency supplies meet established quotas. Responsible for cleaning, assembling, packaging and sterilizing of all instruments and equipment according to the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc. (CBSPD), the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), and the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) current standards. Incumbents are also accountable for demonstrating awareness of personal and work area safety at all times; using evidence-based practices (EBP) and complying with facility safety policies and procedures in carrying out duties including those for blood borne pathogens and communicable diseases and; keeping knowledge current on aseptic techniques and basic microbiology sufficient to understand the ways diseases and infections are transmitted and the importance of clean and sterile supplies in patient care; attending training in new and improved sterilization practices and developments in the microbiology, bacteriology, and therapeutic practices as they affect the sterile supply operation. Conducts inventories (e.g., orders and stocks medical disposable goods in storage areas) and ensures sterile processing of all materials. Provides guidance and monitors quality of work assignments for Sterile Processing Technicians and Supply Technicians. Responds to requests from internal and external customers and actively participates in a continuous quality improvement process.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

• Associates degree or equivalent experience required.
• Three (3) years of related experience required.
• CRCST (Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician) certification required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

• CHL (Certified Health Leader), CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist ), or CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) preferred.
