The Resident Wellness Coordinator plans, coordinates and implements high quality life enrichment and fitness programs for independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing residents. The Wellness Programs Manager also oversees the planning of outings, events, and activities for all residents. These daily programs are designed to meet the physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual needs and interests of the residents while ensuring coordination and collaboration between various wellness focused departments.

Wage range: $65,000-$66,300

Eligibility begins the first of the month following 30 days of employment. Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 403(B) plan (Eligibility on 403b – 20 hours per week) – We match 50 cents for every dollar saved up to 10% of your annual salary. Matching begins the first of the quarter following 1 year of employment. Full-time employees are eligible to accrue up to 16 paid time off days, 6 paid holidays and 3 personal days. Pro-rated paid time off is available to part-time employees.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assesses, evaluates and documents information on each resident according to background, interests, abilities, physical limitations and needs for purpose of planning meaningful programming within required regulatory timelines.
  • Plans, develops and evaluates the effectiveness of wellness and fitness programs for residents and staff. Assists Director of Resident Services in the pricing for services provided.
  • Develops and maintains appropriate records indicating resident attendance and participation in activities and fitness classes. As applicable, develop and maintain documentation of resident progress and periodic documentation of resident responses to programs.
  • Provide meaningful group and individual fitness and wellness programs, as well as life enriching opportunities for the residents at various times throughout every day and evening in each service line (IL, AL, and SNF), either directly or through subordinates. Programming is to be based on resident’s needs and preferences.
  • Ensures all programs comply with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Participates in resident care planning and provides documentation as required.
  • Markets each program through the development of marketing tools, handouts and presentations of service.
  • Presents materials for the monthly newsletter and calendar and ensures accuracy of the daily schedule and portal for fitness, life enrichment, events/trips, and activities either directly or through subordinates.
  • Conducts routine quality assurance audits of departments and takes corrective action as needed.
  • Purchases all necessary equipment and supplies to support wellness and fitness programs, within budget. Works with Director of Resident Services on budget forecasting for each department.
  • Responds to resident and staff inquiries and suggestions. Works to resolve problems and concerns.
  • Provides monthly progress reports to the Director of Resident Services relative to the participation of each client group involved in wellness and fitness programs and one-on-one personal training programs.
  • Supervises and provides instruction for resident fitness programs. Leads exercise classes and supervises personal training progress.
  • Occasionally (as needed) supervises and provides instruction for resident fitness programs. Leads exercise classes and supervises personal training progress.
  • Ensures fitness specialists provide initial resident and staff participant screening, establishment of baselines, and instructions on equipment and programs to ensure the highest level of individual safety and integrity of exercise equipment prior to beginning fitness program regiments.
  • Plans and implements educational programs/engagements for the community.
  • Presents the Wellness program at New Hire Orientation and at the monthly Resident Services new resident orientation program.
  • Services as staff liaison to applicable resident committees, including Fitness and Sports Committee. May assist and fill in on Assisted Living Resident Council.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Activity professional certification (CTRS or ADC) or has two years in a social or recreational program within the last five years, one of which was as a full-time patient activities program in a health care setting
  • Preferred two years’ experience in fitness program development and/or personal training
  • Familiar with gym environment, group fitness classes, personal training
  • Ability to attain first aid training, Dementia & Mental Health training, HIV/AIDS training, obtain a food handler’s card and CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Current Washington State drivers’ license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, management and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of general interests and desire to meet recreational and fitness needs of older adults.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations specific to activities.
  • Skilled in recognizing physical, mental and emotional needs of residents and good judgment in making decisions about actions to be taken regarding these needs.
  • Ability to work well with older adults and in close cooperation with staff members and volunteers
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent English communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Skilled with Microsoft office suit software programs.
  • Regular, predictable and dependable attendance.
