Job Overview
Heron Hill Winery, a pioneering Finger Lakes winery with a strong focus on sustainability and quality winemaking, is seeking a motivated and hardworking Cellar Hand to join our production team for the 2025 harvest season. This position is based at our Hammondsport winery, with the potential to grow into a long-term role for the right candidate. As a Cellar Hand, you will work closely with our winemaking team to assist in all aspects of harvest and cellar operations. This role is hands-on, fast-paced, and ideal for someone passionate about wine, eager to learn, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Assist with grape receiving, sorting, crushing, and pressing
- Perform pump-overs, rackings, and other ferment management tasks
- Operate and clean winery equipment (presses, pumps, hoses, tanks)
- Sanitize and maintain a clean, organized cellar
- Barrel work including filling, topping, and cleaning
- General harvest support as directed by the winemaking team
Qualifications:
- Prior harvest or cellar experience preferred, but not required—training will be provided
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical work in varying conditions
- Comfortable working long hours
- Interest in winemaking and enthusiasm for learning
