What are the responsibilities and job description for the Respite Care Specialist position at Heroes Unbound LLC?
Respite Care Specialist – Professional Support for Rhinelander Families
The Opportunity: Essential Support & Developmental Growth Are you looking for a purpose-driven, part-time role where your work directly improves the lives of children and supports their families? As a Respite Care Specialist with Heroes Unbound, you provide vital, specialized care that allows primary caregivers to take a necessary break. This is a professional human services role focused on fostering a child's development and community integration right here in Rhinelander.
What You'll Do & The Impact You'll Make:
- Skill Development Coach: You’ll help children master "Daily Living Skills" through hands-on practice. This might look like teaching a child how to follow a visual recipe, practicing how to sort laundry, or learning how to use a microwave safely.
- Community & Recreational Companion: We want our kids active! You might spend an afternoon at the Holmboe Nature Preserve, go on a scavenger hunt for Hodag statues, or practice social skills at the Rhinelander District Library.
- Financial Literacy: You may take a trip to a local shop to help a child practice identifying coins and staying within a small budget for a treat.
Career Structure & Seasonal Hours:
- Summer Opportunities: We are currently entering our summer season! We have a high need for dedicated individuals during these months. If you are only looking for summer-specific work, please indicate "Summer Only" when you apply.
- Year-Round Availability: For those looking for long-term roles, please note that while summer offers daytime hours, once the school year resumes, hours shift strictly to after-school, evenings, and weekends. Weekday daytime hours are not available year-round.
- Flexibility: You collaborate directly with the client family to create a weekly or monthly schedule that works for both of you.
The "Hard Line" on Safety (State Mandate):
Mandatory Background Check: To ensure the safety of the vulnerable population we serve, all applicants must pass a state-mandated comprehensive criminal background check. By Wisconsin law, certain convictions are permanently disqualifying. These regulations are strictly enforced by the state; we have no authority to grant exceptions or overrides, regardless of personal character. If the state says no, we cannot move forward.
Requirements:
- Transportation: Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and current car insurance to transport clients to local Rhinelander activities.
