What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Montessori Guide for Primary Age Classroom position at Herndon Montessori School?
Herndon Montessori School (HMS) is currently accepting applications for a full-time Lead Montessori Guide for our Children's House (ages 3-6).
HMS offers an authentic Montessori education, designed to inspire a child’s creativity. We are seeking qualified, enthusiastic and nurturing individuals that will be responsible for presenting lessons, teaching reading, math, geography, science and writing using an authentic Montessori method of instruction. You will be responsible to supervise the classroom by helping the children to think creatively, to solve problems independently and respect themselves and others.
The guide will provide and maintain a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate program in accordance to all relevant child care policies, procedures, and county regulations. The Guide will be responsible for planning and implementing center-directed program instruction.
Required Skills/Experience
- Montessori Certification strongly preferred. Appropriate experience can be considered in lieu of certification.
- Bachelor's/Associate degree, preferably in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field
- At least five years of full-time teaching experience as lead , with a group of children in a montessori environment
- Must have a warm supportive, and patient attitude and disposition toward working with children and their families
- Kind, thoughtful, and strong at guiding children in self-motivated learning and helping stimulate their natural desire to learn
- Energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive
- Completion of a background check required
- MAT certification a plus.
- Monday to Friday commitment required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct daily activities for the program in the classroom and outdoors
- Maintain an environment that promotes optimal growth and development of children
- Set classroom expectations for students, parents and assistant teachers
- Observe, record, and report significant learning/behavior concerns of children to the School Director
- Supervise, and guide Assistant Teachers as needed
- Helps the children to think creatively, to solve problems independently and respect themselves and others
- Maintains an attractive, well-kept classroom that encourages children to create, explore and make decisions with confidence
- Ensures that children are actively engaged in a safe, organized, stimulating learning environment
- Actively develops and maintains positive parent relationships
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
