Job Description
OPERATIONS WORKER
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Head of Maintenance and Operations and the Business Manager perform a variety of maintenance repair and construction tasks: to perform custodial duties and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Incumbents in the Operations Worker classification perform a variety of maintenance and custodial duties at the school sites and in the district office.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1.Repairs and maintains custodial and maintenance equipment.
2.Repairs minor plumbing and physical structures.
3.Repairs minor electrical wiring in district facilities.
4.Assists in the maintenance of roofs, furniture, fences, playground equipment, cabinets, shelving, chalkboards, and bulletin boards
5.Assists in the maintenance of heating and cooling equipment.
6.Replaces and repairs floor and ceiling tiles.
7.Installs, repairs and maintains door locks, closures and windows.
8.Prepares surfaces, mixes paints, and finishes a variety of equipment, furniture and school facility physical structures.
9.Responsible for the efficient functioning and the cleanliness of plant including cleaning areas adjacent to buildings and playgrounds, cleaning floors, furniture, windows, walls, ceilings and equipment.
10.Assist in the moving of furniture and equipment.
11.Opens and secures gates, buildings and rooms.
12.Raises and lowers flags.
13.Maintains adequate supply of custodial needs as determined by the Head of Maintenance and Operations; maintains efficient inventory and control procedures to assure that supplies are always available.
14.Performs all other custodial and maintenance duties to maintain the plant in operating condition or as directed by the Head of Maintenance and Operations and the Business Manager.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF: basic methods, materials and equipment used in cleaning various types of surfaces and furniture, basic safety procedures, basic methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair work, safe working methods and procedures.
ABILITY TO: maintain work schedules in performing tasks, perform heavy physical labor, work without immediate supervision, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work day, perform with mechanical aptitude and ability, use power hand tools in a safe and efficient manner, operate automotive equipment safely in accordance with traffic laws.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Informal education in an amount sufficient to provide the ability to read and write at a level necessary to perform the job and six months experience as a semi-skilled worker and or custodian.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
School site environment; subject to many demands on time and constant interruptions.
