Job Description
Health Aide
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under supervision of the site Principal, in collaboration with the District Nurse, the health aide coordinates programs dealing with health needs of students through counseling in areas of cleanliness, nutrition and over-all health care, and through home contacts.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1. Administer first aide.
2. Conduct health screenings.
3. Contacts and consults with parents regarding student health problems.
4. Coordinates all students health records.
5. Serves as a member of the school guidance team.
6. Serves as a resource to teachers in the development of classroom health/nutrition units as requested.
7. Makes home visits as necessary.
8. Complete any other duties as determined by the site principal.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF: up-to-date first aid applications; good nutritional standards and practices; acceptable standards of cleanliness; general standards and practices for good health care.
ABILITY TO: Work independently' establish good communication with students, parents, and teacher' organize and use time wisely; maintain clear, concise records; counsel students in good over-all health care; use good public relations skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education and training which would clearly demonstrate the knowledge and skills listed above, an example of which would be equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
School environment; subject to many demands on time and constant interruptions.
WORK YEAR:
10 months.
