What are the responsibilities and job description for the Snow Project Manager position at Hermes Co Inc?
Hermes Landscaping has spent more than 60 years building a reputation as one of the Midwest's premier commercial landscape and snow & ice management companies. Our customers depend on us to deliver exceptional service during some of the most demanding weather conditions of the year.
We're looking for an experienced operations leader who enjoys planning, solving problems, building customer relationships, and leading teams under pressure. This is an opportunity to take ownership of a portfolio of high-profile commercial properties while helping shape one of the region's premier snow and ice management operations.
The Opportunity
As a Snow Project Manager, you'll oversee a portfolio of approximately 5–7 dedicated commercial properties throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area.
Working closely with Site Superintendents, you'll ensure each property is prepared for winter weather events, serve as the primary customer contact, and coordinate the people, resources, and communication needed to deliver exceptional service.
This is a leadership role focused on planning, communication, customer service, and operational excellence—not operating equipment throughout an entire storm.
What You'll Lead
Customer Relationships & Communication
- Serve as the primary management contact for assigned commercial customers.
- Build strong relationships with property and facility managers.
- Communicate proactively before, during, and after snow events.
- Resolve customer concerns while ensuring exceptional service and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain frequent, professional communication with customers, Site Superintendents, subcontractors, and internal teams through email, phone, text, and in-person conversations.
Site Operations
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 5–7 dedicated commercial properties.
- Support and direct Site Superintendents responsible for on-site execution.
- Develop event plans, monitor storm progress, and adjust resources as conditions change.
- Coordinate labor, equipment, subcontractors, and materials to ensure quality, safety, and contractual expectations are met.
Planning & Preparation
- Conduct preseason site reviews and establish site-specific operational plans.
- Ensure crews, equipment, materials, and site resources are prepared before each event.
- Anticipate challenges and proactively address operational issues before they impact service.
Documentation & Accountability
- Maintain thorough and timely documentation throughout each snow event, including customer communications, operational updates, service records, and follow-up items.
- Ensure accurate labor, equipment, material, and service documentation for billing and reporting.
- Identify additional billable work and assist with incident reporting.
- Participate in post-event reviews to improve future performance.
Leadership
- Coach and support Site Superintendents while promoting accountability, communication, and teamwork.
- Lead with a calm, professional approach during changing weather conditions.
- Foster a culture of safety, preparation, and continuous improvement.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for a leader who enjoys managing people, solving problems, and delivering exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience leading field operations in landscaping, construction, facilities, logistics, transportation, public works, or a similar industry.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally with customers, field leaders, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Strong email, documentation, and organizational skills with the ability to manage a high volume of communication and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in fast-moving situations where timely information and follow-through are critical.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience managing multiple priorities, teams, or subcontractors.
- Sound decision-making skills with a strong attention to detail.
- A customer-first mindset and the ability to build strong relationships.
- Comfort using smartphones, tablets, and electronic reporting systems.
- A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Commercial snow management experience is preferred but not required.
Seasonal Schedule
Snow doesn't operate on a fixed schedule—and neither do we.
This is a seasonal, weather-dependent leadership position. Availability during snow and ice events—including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts—is required. When winter weather isn't occurring, responsibilities include preseason planning, training, site preparation, and operational meetings.
