Basic Function: Serves as a primary representative of the college to prospective students, families, guidance counselors, and community partners through regular communication and recruitment activities. Counsels and advises incoming students on program and career interests aligned with the College's offerings, effectively communicating their value.
Major Responsibilities:
- Educates incoming students, families, guidance counselors, high school administrators, and community members about Herkimer County Community College and the overall admissions process, effectively communicating the value of the college and its offerings.
- Represents the College enthusiastically and professionally at high school visits, college fairs, vocational centers, community events, and other functions throughout New York, as well as in neighboring states.
- Counsels and advises prospective students on academic programs, career interests, and degree selection, including assisting undecided students.
- Guides prospective students through each step of the admissions process, providing encouragement and positive reinforcement.
- Maintains current knowledge of the college's academic, workforce, continuing education, athletics, and student support services.
- Manages an assigned recruitment territory consisting of high schools, community organizations, business partners, and special populations.
- Develops and maintains relationships with guidance counselors, high school administrators, community partners, prospective students, and families.
- Plans and coordinates marketing and recruitment activities including delivering presentations to large and small groups at high school visits, college fairs, community events, instant admission days, and workshops.
- Maintains regular communication with prospective students and other stakeholders through phone, email, text, live chat, social media, mailings, and in-person outreach.
- Actively participates in planning and execution of admissions events including campus tours, group visits, open house, accepted students' day, and special program days.
- Analyzes recruitment and enrollment data in Slate (CRM) to prepare reports, support annual enrollment objectives, and adjust recruitment strategies using data-driven decision making.
- Stays informed of trends and best practices in community college admissions and recruitment and makes recommendations to improve recruitment strategies and engagement with prospective student populations.
- Develops and maintains proficiency with Slate, Banner, and other relevant software systems.
- Accurately and consistently tracks recruitment activities, student interactions, and travel expenses in Slate and other systems.
- Trains and supervises student workers with duties including campus tours, data entry, event support, and outreach.
- Serves on college committees as assigned.
- Demonstrates excellent work ethic, reliability, and attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Experience and Educational Background:
- Associate degree required, Bachelor's degree in marketing or a related field preferred.
- Experience in higher education preferred, particularly in a community college setting.
- Experience with Slate, Banner, and Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
- Valid NYS driver's license with clean driving record.
- Strong cross-cultural, interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking.
- Ability to travel extensively Monday through Friday, including overnight travel, as well availability to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Ability to lift and transport recruitment materials.
Preferred Experience:
- Admissions, recruitment and outreach, customer service, teaching, public speaking, social media marketing, and involvement in student activities or community organizations.
