Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers, including refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, and tankers, across over-the-road (OTR) routes while complying with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Plan and follow efficient routes using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery times and fuel consumption.
- Load and unload freight manually or with equipment, ensuring proper handling of logistics cargo while adhering to hazardous materials regulations when transporting dangerous goods.
- Transport automobile parts or other freight securely, maintaining the integrity of the cargo throughout transit.
- Manage delivery schedules by coordinating with dispatch teams, verifying delivery details, and ensuring accurate documentation of shipments.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections on trucks and trailers to identify maintenance needs or safety issues.
- Comply with all safety protocols related to hazardous materials (Hazmat), manual handling, and truck loading/unloading procedures.
- Maintain detailed logs of driving hours, cargo manifests, inspection reports, and incident reports in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving and delivery driving with a clean driving record.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, flatbed trucks, tanker trucks, and tractor-trailer operations.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials regulations (Hazmat), dangerous goods handling, and DOT compliance standards.
- Ability to operate manual transmission trucks confidently while adhering to safety guidelines.
- Experience with GPS navigation tools for route planning and real-time tracking during deliveries.
- Strong understanding of logistics cargo handling processes including load & unload procedures for freight of various types.
- Prior experience in over-the-road (OTR) driving routes that require long-distance travel across multiple states or regions is highly desirable.
