Senior Wealth Planning Associate

Richmond, Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia or Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Full-Time | Hybrid

Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000 bonus potential

Reports to: Director of Financial Planning & Tax

The Opportunity

Heritage Wealth Advisors is seeking a Senior Wealth Planning Associate to help serve ultra-high-net-worth families and institutions across the interconnected areas of financial planning, tax, investments, estate planning, and family office services.

Working alongside experienced Wealth Advisors and specialists, you will take meaningful ownership of sophisticated client work, contribute more actively in client relationships, and coordinate with clients’ attorneys, CPAs, business managers, and other professional advisors. You will also help develop Associates and Interns while remaining accountable for the quality and execution of the work you oversee.

This is an opportunity for an experienced planning professional who wants to deepen their technical expertise, exercise greater judgment, and continue progressing toward a lead advisory role.

The Work

·        Advance client relationships, partnering with Wealth Advisors and Senior Wealth Advisors to understand client priorities, resolve requests, anticipate needs, and assume increasing responsibility within selected relationships.

·        Lead preparation and follow-through, owning or supporting client meeting preparation, participating actively in selected meetings, documenting decisions, and ensuring next steps move through completion.

·        Deliver integrated planning, developing and maintaining balance sheets, cash flow projections, tax analyses, investment information, and other materials that connect the different areas of a client’s financial life.

·        Provide tax planning and preparation, including tax projections, estimated payment analyses, tax forms, and individual, trust, partnership, nonprofit, gift, and related returns; conduct first-level reviews of work prepared by Associates and Interns.

·        Support complex estate and trust matters, reviewing and summarizing estate documents, maintaining trust distribution schedules, preparing annual Crummey notices for ILITs, and monitoring external and intrafamily loan obligations.

·        Execute family office services, overseeing or performing client bookkeeping, reporting, bill pay, and related administrative financial services for families that engage Heritage for this work.

·        Coordinate the full advisory picture, working across Heritage’s Financial Planning & Tax, Investment Advisory, Operations, Philanthropy, and other teams, as well as with clients’ outside professionals and relevant third parties.

·        Develop others while maintaining accountability, training and supporting Associates and Interns, sharing client and technical knowledge, reviewing assigned work, and ensuring standards and deadlines are met.

·        Contribute to the firm and professional community, helping improve how Heritage serves complex families, building relationships with professional peers and potential centers of influence, and representing the firm through professional and community involvement.

The Senior Associate We’re Looking For

·        You connect the details, understanding how tax, financial planning, investments, estate strategy, and family office needs influence one another.

·        You exercise sound judgment, assessing situations, identifying when guidance is needed, and bringing thoughtful recommendations rather than questions alone.

·        You take ownership, communicating progress, anticipating issues, and remaining accountable for work that has been delegated to others.

·        You are ready for greater client responsibility, communicating clearly and professionally with clients, colleagues, outside advisors, and third parties.

·        You raise the capability of the team, sharing knowledge, developing less-experienced colleagues, and improving the quality and consistency of the work.

·        You balance precision with responsiveness, maintaining high standards while managing multiple relationships, deadlines, and priorities.

Qualifications

Required

·        Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting, finance, economics, business, or a related field.

·        Three to five years of relevant experience in financial planning, tax, investment advisory, family office services, or a related field.

·        Completion of, or active progress toward, a relevant professional designation such as the CFP®, CPA, EA, or CFA.

·        Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex financial information.

·        Clear written and verbal communication skills.

·        Strong organization, attention to detail, discretion, and follow-through.

·        Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.

Particularly Valuable

·        Tax planning and preparation experience, including exposure to individual, trust, partnership, nonprofit, gift, or related returns.

·        Exposure to estate planning, trust administration, client bookkeeping, bill pay, or other family office services.

·        Experience reviewing work or guiding Associates, Interns, or other developing professionals.

·        Familiarity with eMoney, Tamarac Advisor View, QuickBooks, CRM systems, or comparable financial technology platforms.

Compensation & Benefits

Heritage offers a competitive salary and bonus potential based on experience, credentials, and capabilities.

Heritage also offers:

·        Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D, and disability insurance.

·        401(k) with profit sharing.

·        Financial support for professional development, certifications, continuing education, and leadership development.

·        Paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays.

·        A flexible hybrid work environment.

·        Parental and family leave.

·        Access to Heritage resources, internal expertise, professional networks, and thought leadership opportunities.
