What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Development Manager position at Heritage Pork International, Inc.?
Business Development Manager
Heritage Pork International
About Heritage Pork International
For over 25 years, Heritage Pork International has been a boutique, high-end pork company producing and marketing specialty pork programs. Our flagship brand, Heritage Berkshire, is built on Berkshire (Kurobuta) genetics — a Japanese heritage breed known for exceptional marbling, tenderness, and flavor. Often described as the "Wagyu of pork," our product is raised by independent, family-owned farms across the Midwest using humane, sustainable practices, and produced in small, limited quantities. Our customers include high-end restaurants, specialty butcher shops, premium and Asian grocery chains, and national foodservice distribution across the country.
Position Overview
Heritage Pork International is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to expand our footprint in premium and specialty protein channels. This is a hunter-focused role for a seasoned sales professional who already carries an established book of business and relationships within the meat industry. You'll be responsible for developing new accounts, growing our presence with national distributors and premium retail chains, and bringing a specialty-program mindset to an already-thriving boutique brand.
What You'll Do
- Develop and grow a book of business within specialty and premium protein channels
- Identify and pursue new account opportunities with national distributors (e.g., Sysco, US Foods) and premium/specialty grocery chains
- Bring existing relationships and industry knowledge to accelerate Heritage Pork International's growth
- Represent the brand at trade shows and industry events
- Collaborate closely with ownership and the broader team in a small, hands-on company environment
What We're Looking For
- Established experience in pork, beef, or an adjacent specialty meat/protein category
- Background in specialty or premium branded programs rather than large-scale commodity sales
- Existing relationships with national distribution networks (Sysco, US Foods) and/or premium grocery chains strongly preferred
- Candidates from larger commodity-focused organizations with transferable relationships into premium retail/foodservice channels will also be considered
- A true hunter mentality — comfortable building new accounts and expanding a territory from the ground up
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $80,000–$120,000, plus performance-based bonus distributed twice annually
- Health insurance, with employer-paid premiums
- Paid time off (accrual increases with tenure)
