What are the responsibilities and job description for the Private Equity Portfolio Operations position at Heritage Point?
Portfolio Operations [Senior Associate/Vice President] – Heritage Point Partners
Los Angeles | Hybrid (2–3 days in office)
May require some travel to visit portfolio companies, but is not a Monday-Thursday on site job
About Heritage Point
Heritage Point Partners (“HPoint”) is a Los Angeles-based private equity firm focused on acquiring and building lower middle market businesses. We combine blue-chip training with a hands-on, founder-friendly approach.
Fund I has performed exceptionally well, we are preparing to launch Fund II (roughly double in size), and the team remains intentionally small, meaning every hire directly shapes the future of the firm.
Our backgrounds are Bain/Golden Gate and McKinsey/KKR, so the bar for rigor is high, but we left those worlds to build a culture without the posturing, sharp elbows, ego, and hierarchy that bog down traditional private equity.
If you want to do serious work with good people, this is that place.
The Opportunity
We’re hiring a Portfolio Operations [Senior Associate/Vice President] to help us drive value creation opportunities across our portfolio of companies. This is not a job for somebody who just wants to build decks – you will roll up your sleeves and drive real change at our businesses.
You will:
- Work directly with partners and portfolio company management teams
- Take real ownership of the value creation initiative activities at the companies
- Be the first hire in our value creation group; giving you a lot of run way if you are successful
This is a role for someone who wants to build, not just execute, a private equity operations career. MBA not required.
Top performers advance on a partner track.
What You’ll Do
You will be the connective tissue between HPoint and our companies. Responsibilities include:
Operating Rigor & Performance Management
- Work with management to build and institutionalize budgets, reporting packages, and forecasting models
- Stand up operating scorecards and KPI dashboards tailored to each company
- Build integration playbooks with CEOs and functional leads
- Drive monthly / quarterly business reviews and help CEOs focus on what matters
- Develop and refine pricing models, unit economics, and profitability analysis
Value Creation & Execution
- Own distinct value creation workstreams (e.g., pricing, vendor negotiations, salesforce effectiveness)
- Identify and implement margin enhancement, SG&A efficiency, and working capital improvements
- Support commercial initiatives such as outbound sales motions, A/B testing, and funnel diagnostics
- Lead special projects: system implementations (ERP, CRM, dispatch), operational restructuring, org design
Company Building & Talent
- Partner with CEOs to define org needs and drive key hiring processes. We are business builders and we need to build A management teams at our companies
- Identify, vet, and manage a network of 3rd party service providers (e.g., CFO advisors, digital marketers,
- CEO coaches, pricing consultants)
- Improve internal processes across the portfolio: onboarding, training, compensation alignment, KPI
- discipline
Board, Investor & Firm Support
- Prepare and refine board packages and portfolio company updates
- Maintain cap tables, waterfall models, and equity incentive plans
- Support Fund II value creation strategy and playbook development
- Help codify learnings across the portfolio into reusable HPoint frameworks
AI-Enabled Operations
- Use AI tools to accelerate analysis, automate workflows, and build operational leverage across companies
- Experiment with new tools and pilots, we’re pushing the frontier, not catching up to it
Who You Are
- 3-5 years in total experience: 2-3 years in top tier management consulting plus one other 1-2 year experience (in a company; in a PE operating role; getting an MBA)
- Exceptionally well-organized; we have a growing portfolio and your scope will grow along with it
- A ‘nose for the money’; you can look at a P&L and know where to go to drive value
- Curious, commercially-minded, and able to zoom out and see the forest, not just the trees
- Strong communicator - comfortable presenting to partners and management teams
- Thrive in lean teams and bias toward ownership (if something needs doing, you do it)
- Low ego, high standards, team-first orientation
We want people who want to punch above their weight and grow faster than the industry usually allows.
Why Heritage Point?
- You won’t get lost in the hierarchy. You will be the first portfolio operations hires and your work will directly drive EBITDA growth at our investments
- We use AI as a force multiplier, from diligence to portfolio ops, and we expect our team to lean into it. You’ll be part of a firm that pushes the frontier, not one that’s catching up to it
- You will work directly with our PortCo CEOs and be the go-to person for any value creation activities at our investments
- The culture is different - deliberately. We have a strict “no asshole” rule. We treat people (internally and externally) the right way
- You’ll get carry. This is a firm-building role. We believe in alignment
- You’ll work hard, but not pointlessly. We care about performance, not performative hours
- Partner-track opportunity. We take value creation seriously; there will be a path to be a Value Creation Partner
