What are the responsibilities and job description for the 1st Assistant Golf Professional position at Heritage Palms HOA?
The First Assistant Golf Professional plays a key role in supporting the Head Golf Professional in all aspects of golf operations. This position is responsible for ensuring the highest level of member and guest service, maintaining the standards of the golf shop, assisting with tournament operations, managing daily play, and contributing to the overall growth of the game at the club. The First Assistant will act as a leader within the golf operations team, setting an example for professionalism, customer service, and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
Golf Operations Support
- Assist the Head Professional in overseeing daily golf operations, including tee sheet management, pace of play, tournament setup, and golf cart services.
- Supervise and train golf shop staff, outside service staff, and seasonal employees.
- Maintain an organized, efficient, and member-focused golf shop environment.
- Support the planning and execution of club tournaments, leagues, and special events.
- Provide prompt and courteous service to all members and guests, addressing concerns and resolving issues in a professional manner.
Merchandising & Retail
- Assist in managing inventory, including receiving, tagging, displaying, and tracking merchandise.
- Contribute to creative merchandising displays that promote sales and enhance the shop presentation.
- Provide knowledgeable product recommendations and personalized service to members and guests.
Coaching & Player Development
- Deliver private and group instruction for players of all skill levels, with an emphasis on growing the game and improving player enjoyment.
- Assist with the design and execution of player development programs, including beginner clinics, and women’s programs.
- Provide on-course playing lessons and guidance to enhance members’ experience of the game.
- Promote a welcoming, supportive learning environment that encourages participation and improvement.
- Stay current with teaching methodologies, golf technology, and equipment fitting practices.
Leadership & Professional Development
- Serve as a role model for professionalism, integrity, and service excellence.
- Mentor and develop seasonal assistants, interns, and support staff.
- Actively pursue continuing education opportunities through the PGA.
Qualifications
- PGA Member or Associate in good standing.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with genuine commitment to members and guest service.
- Demonstrate ability to teach and coach golfers across all levels, with proven results.
- Experience in golf shop operations, tournament management, and staff supervision.
- Knowledge of industry technology (POS systems, tournament software, launch monitors, fitting tools, etc.).
