Heritage High School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate High School Guidance Counselor to join our team in a full-time capacity. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting students' academic, emotional, and social development. The Guidance Counselor will work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to create a positive school environment that fosters student success and well-being.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide individual and group counseling to students to address academic, personal, and social issues.
- Assist students in developing academic plans and setting educational goals.
- Conduct assessments to identify student strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
- Facilitate workshops and programs on topics such as college readiness, career exploration, and mental health awareness.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to create interventions for at-risk students.
- Advocate for students' needs and help them navigate school resources and support services.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records and documentation.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and concerns.
- Stay informed about college admissions processes, scholarship opportunities, and career options to provide relevant guidance.
- Participate in school events, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities.
- Participate in, coordinate, and/or conduct activities which contribute to the effective operation of the school.
- Assist in the school assessment process.
- Other duties as assigned by district administration.
REQUIREMENTS
- Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, or a related field, preferred.
- Valid state certification as a school counselor.
- Previous experience working with high school students in an educational setting preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
- Knowledge of college and career readiness resources and programs.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to student advocacy and promoting a positive school climate.
- Familiarity with mental health resources and crisis intervention strategies.
MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Regular, in-person attendance required
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Ability to use sound judgment; tact and courtesy in a variety of situations
- Work with frequent interruptions
- Repetitive hand motions
- Prolonged use of computer
- Possible occasional lifting or pushing of up to 25 pounds
- Standing, walking, sitting, stooping, bending and kneeling

HOURS/PAY:
- 8 hours per day, 5 days per week (7:25a-3:10p)
- Approximately 185 workdays (August through June)
- Salary and benefits are pursuant to collective bargaining agreement with Saginaw Township Education Association (STEA)
- Current 2025-26 compensation start at $46,041 Bachelor's Degree (no previous teaching experience); $58,836 Master 30 Degree, (no previous teaching experience)
- The parties’ collective bargaining agreement expires July 31, 2027.
