What are the responsibilities and job description for the HPA HEALTH TEACHER position at Hereford Preparatory Academy?
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas Teaching certificate, with required endorsements for any core content subject.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Must have knowledge of the subject assigned
- Must have general knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
Primary Responsibilities:

Design and deliver engaging health lessons that meet the TEKS for 8th grade.

Teach topics such as CPR, nutrition, personal health, human growth and development, mental health, substance abuse prevention, healthy relationships, and disease prevention.

Create a safe and respectful classroom where sensitive topics are discussed appropriately.

Encourage critical thinking and informed decision-making about personal and social health issues.

Use a variety of instructional strategies and assessments to meet diverse learning needs.

Maintain communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities.

Collaborate with colleagues, school counselors, and administrators to support student well-being.

Maintain accurate records and comply with district, state, and federal policies.

Participate in professional development and school-based activities as required.
Experience/Expectations:
- Must have 2-3 years of minimum teaching experience.

Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Physical Education, or a related field.

Valid Texas teaching certificate with Health Education 6–12 or appropriate middle school certification.

Strong understanding of adolescent development and health education pedagogy.

Ability to teach in a culturally responsive and inclusive manner.

Classroom management and communication skills.
Working Conditions:

Classroom setting with occasional duties outside normal teaching responsibilities (e.g., assemblies, health fairs).

May involve supervision of students in non-classroom settings.

Participation in school-wide activities, staff meetings, and parent conferences may be required beyond regular hours.
