Sr. Director R&D Test Engineering

What's the role?

As Senior Director, Quality Assurance & Testing, you will lead the independent quality validation capability across HERE’s Platform & Technology organization. You will help establish quality as a measurable business outcome by enabling early risk identification, release confidence, and continuous improvement through modern testing, automation, and data-driven validation practices.In this role, you will:

• Lead a cross-functional Quality Assurance & Testing organization spanning product testing, quality engineering, automation engineering, data science, validation, and upstream quality measurement.
• Define and execute a scalable quality strategy, including testing frameworks, validation methodologies, benchmarking approaches, release-readiness processes, and KPI-based quality assessments.
• Build quality measurement capabilities that provide early visibility into system performance risks through statistical analysis, automation, predictive indicators, and validation pipelines.
• Establish independent testing and validation practices that verify end-to-end product quality, multi-system integration, and customer requirements before release.
• Advance automation-first and AI-enabled quality practices through intelligent test generation, anomaly detection, predictive quality models, and automated quality monitoring.
• Partner with Engineering, Product, Operations, and System Owners to provide actionable insights that influence prioritization, quality trade-offs, and delivery decisions.
• Develop and monitor quality metrics, system health indicators, release readiness measures, testing coverage, and defect trends to support data-driven decision making.
• Build organizational capability across quality engineering, automation, testing methodologies, and quality-focused data science.
• Lead collaboration across global teams and disciplines to ensure consistent, scalable, and comparable quality measurement and validation practices throughout the organization.

 

Who are you?

You are a strategic technology leader who combines deep expertise in quality engineering and testing with a passion for building high-performing teams, modern quality practices, and data-driven decision making. You enjoy partnering across organizations, influencing complex initiatives, and creating scalable frameworks that enable reliable, customer-focused outcomes.To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Minimum 15 years of extensive experience leading large-scale Quality Engineering, Software Testing, Quality Assurance, or related technical organizations.
• Strong expertise in quality frameworks, validation methodologies, testing platforms, release certification processes, and customer-focused KPI validation.
• Experience designing and scaling automation-first quality organizations supporting complex technology ecosystems.
• Knowledge of statistical quality measurement, sampling strategies, quality indicators, and data-driven validation approaches.
• Understanding of AI/ML applications in quality engineering, including anomaly detection, predictive quality models, and automated quality insights.
• Experience working with automation frameworks, data pipelines, large-scale data environments, Python, SQL, and ETL-based workflows.
• Technical depth in data-intensive products and systems, ideally within mapping, location services, mobility, or similarly complex technology environments.
• Success leading cross-functional programs and influencing outcomes across teams without direct ownership of delivery.
• Experience developing multidisciplinary teams across quality engineering, automation, software engineering, and data science disciplines.
• A track record of driving quality transformation initiatives that increase automation, improve predictability, and shift organizations toward proactive quality management.
• Strong understanding of risk-based quality management, release readiness assessments, and customer-facing quality commitments.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex technical findings into clear business recommendations.
• Experience working in global, matrixed organizations and collaborating across multiple functions and geographies.
• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical discipline.
• Availability to travel up to 20–25% as needed.
