Lead Software Engineer (TypeScript / Backend) - Last Meter Team

What's the role?

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and building scalable backend systems that power HERE's Last Meter services. You will lead technical direction, contribute to architecture decisions, and work closely with cross-functional engineering and product teams.

This role is backend-focused with a strong emphasis on TypeScript (Node.js) and cloud-native development.

 What You'll Do

•  Design and develop scalable backend services using TypeScript and Node.js.
•  Build and maintain high-performance REST APIs used by web and mobile applications.
•  Architect and optimize data storage solutions using PostgreSQL (AWS RDS).
•  Deploy and operate services in Kubernetes environments.
•  Collaborate with frontend, mobile, and platform teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
•  Lead engineering best practices, including code quality, reviews, testing, and CI/CD.
•  Contribute to system design, scalability, and performance optimization.
•  Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership within the team.

•  CI/CD: GitLab.
•  Frontend: TypeScript-based Web UI.

 NOTE: This is an individual contributor role.

Who are you?

• 8 years of software engineering experience with strong full-stack web development skills.
•  Strong experience in TypeScript / Node.js backend development.
•  Proven experience building and scaling RESTful APIs.
•  Experience and motivation to use agentic coding harnesses (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot).
•  Experience working with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
•  Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerized deployments.
•  Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
•  Strong understanding of microservices architecture.
•  Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab or similar).
•  Solid understanding of system design, scalability, and performance.
•  A product-focused individual with great communication skills in English.

 Nice to Have

•  Experience with Python for data processing, analytics, or automation.
•  Exposure to data engineering and machine learning workflows.
•  Experience with Redis or caching strategies.
•  Familiarity with real-time or location-based systems.
