The incumbent has primary responsibility for assessing and monitoring LSC related issues. Success in this role requires active knowledge and utilization of Life Safety Code and Health Care Facilities Code (NFPA 101 and 99), effective workflow and workload management, and working knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements with focus on timeliness, thoroughness, and accuracy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or fire safety engineering

OR Five (5) years of life safety experience.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Three (3) years' experience in providing Life Safety Code Building Assessments in a healthcare setting utilizing NFPA's Life Safety Code NFPA 101 (2012 ed) and its reference manuals

2. Three (3) years of experience with NFPA 101 (2012 ed) Life Safety Code Assessment - Hospital

To be completed as established by department: (Administered at Department level)

1. Certified Life Safety Specialist for Health Care (CLSS-HC) through the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager (CHFM) through the American Hospital Association (AHA).

1. Conduct actual Life Safety Code assessments/building inspections for healthcare buildings utilizing the NFPA IOI (2012 ed) and,

2. Audits that include fire safety evaluation systems, the Joint Commission's Physical Environment compliance reviews, Life Safety Building Maintenance Programs (BMP), and other requirements as determined by the Referenced Publications of NFPA JOI Life Safety Code.
3. Ensure compliance with the Life Safety Code and applicable reference manuals.
4. Provide life safety training to employees.
5. Well organized, analytic problem solver, and detail oriented.

6. Responsibilities include all accreditation and certification programs.

7. Maintain up to date knowledge of Life Safety and Building Codes, CMS and contracted-state regulatory standards, and communicate technical changes across AAAHC operational areas, Standards Development, the IQI and Learning departments as appropriate.

8. Collaborates with Quality & Regulatory leadership, CMS, State Regulatory Compliance to ensure ongoing compliance with CMS and contracted-state regulatory requirements.

9. Success in this role requires active knowledge and utilization of Life Safety Code and Health Care Facilities Code (NFPA 101 and 99), effective workflow and workload management, and working knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements with focus on timeliness, thoroughness, and accuracy.

10. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner and gathers and analyses information skillfully.

11. Planning/organizing-the individual prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans.
12. Adapt quickly to changes in scope or direction and be flexible to adopting changes quickly.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Excellent communication skills

2. Proficiency with MS Office Suite

3. Knowledge of CMS' CoP's, and TJC's Life Safety Chapter
