Job Summary
The Health Information Management Technician is responsible for the receipt and processing of the paper medical record portions of the electronic medical record and responding to telephone and in person requests for medical information from authorized users base on HIPAA and State of California Law.
Licensure and Certification:
- N/A
Education:
- High School Graduate or GED equivalent
- Some college or equivalent strongly preferred.
Experience:
- Acute hospital experience in a medical record department, unit secretary or other equivalent area strongly preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Excellent grammar and writing skill.
- Microsoft office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Medical Terminology
Physical Demands – Clerical/Administrative Non-Patient Care:
· Frequent sitting and standing/walking with frequent position change.
· Continuous use of bilateral upper extremities in fine motor activities requiring fingering, grasping, and forward reaching between waist and chest level.
· Occasional/intermittent reaching at or above shoulder level.
· Occasional/intermittent bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling, twisting, and climbing.
· Occasional/intermittent lifting and carrying objects/equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
· Continuous use of near vision, hearing and verbal communication skills in handling telephone calls, interacting with customers and co-workers and performing job duties.
